Detroit police run out of cash in gun buybacks
August 4, 2006
BY BEN SCHMITT

The Detroit Police department received such a huge response to its gun buyback program that it ran out of money this week.

But Police Spokesman James Tate is hopeful the department can raise more money to hand out to people turning in guns.

Through this morning, the department had collected about 480 weapons. The program began Tuesday and ends Saturday.

The department was handing out vouchers ranging from $50 to $200 for guns that can be turned in anonymously.

Why don't they go the next town (undercover of-course) and pawn some of them?
