Imagine for a minute that you were one of the very few people who grew up in (name your home town). Now, how does this sound:

I'm gay and I've learned not to expect most people to really "get it" even if they seem to treat you as an equal. Instead, I choose to think that many people of good intentions and good faith don't YET get ALL of it. But they can one day, and one day they will.
