How do I get rid of a (condemned) mobile home?

We had a house fire in December. The insurance paid off and now we have the condemned shell. It's unsafe as well as being a money pit.

How do we get this thing removed? Is there anyone likely to take it for scrap? I'd post it on the free section of Craig's list, but I'm not sure anyone would want it.

I've called the car crusher companies in the area and most of them have said they don't take mobiles.

2. Call the fire department

offer them to use it for training. They should have let it burn.

3. I would think your insurance Co should be responsible for it's

removal. I know when there's a house fire, the insurance pays to have all the debris hauled away.

Or I bet you could drive it and park it in Arkansas on that big ass airport lot they have with the other condemned mobile homes. I'm sure they'll never notice.

you could probably recycle that, it's bringing 45 cents a pound around here. There has to be a metal recycling company around there, we have 2 in this little town...

I wish it was older, because then it would have all of that stuff, but no... it's a 90's model, so it's made out of ticky-tacky and cardboard.

The fire department was pretty damn quick.

9. My friend's dad is in the business

He has one of those haulers you see on the highway with the flags and the "oversized load" signs

He charges a fee to haul the old ones away, around 500 bucks,and then he takes them to a scrap metal place and sells them for a certain sum, usually around 5oo bucks.

Call someone in the indusrty, a mobile home park operator or hauler

10. I was faced with ridding myself of an old trailer house once

I got a 30 yard dumpster and started at one end and took it down 3 to 4 ft at a time, burned all that would burn put the rest in the dumpster. If you go that route clean up your mess each day and it isn't so bad. when I made it to the other end I was finished, cleaned up and ready to sell the frame.

12. madokie, I like you idea except for the burning part.

There are so much "bad" stuff in a MH that should not be released into the atmosphere. Just keep loading the dumpster.

16. mostly all I burned was the wood, studs and paneling

what got me was the first piece of paneling I lite on fire. it started burning so fast I almost couldn't get away from it fast enough. I also found a couple places where the electric wire was almost worn through just waiting to start a fire that would have been next to impossible to escape or at least I felt so. it was an eighty footer and it filled up a 30 yard dumpster. the aluminum siding at the time wasn't worth enough for me to salvage and sell.

get a picture up on e-bay and you're all set...probably make enough to retire early....

Seriously, I'm surprised that the insurance company is not required to take possession and remove it, as they would be responsible for taking possession of a auto total. Seems like a no-brainier state reg to me.
