The blogbarians have eaten Joementum! .
So it occurred to me (and on reflection it is pretty obvious) that the demise of the Lieberman campaign is a bit of a watershed event. The blogosphere, the infamous barbarians at the gate, have routed the establishment.

The big guns were called out. Bill made the obligatory tour. Joementum's senate colleagues dutifully lined up to support his run, even though he had more or less denounced some of them as unpatriotic for questioning Dear Leader's endless bad war. The Punditocracy went ballistic denouncing our net support for Lamont: every week another of our precious beltway asshats explained yet again why only lunatics and deadenders were opposed to good old Joe.

And yet here we are at the end of the primary campaign and unless there is a miracle not only is Joementum going down, he appears to being going down big, and he appears to be at the end of his political career.

Time to pick up and put away for safe-keeping your Joementos so that you can show them to your grandchildren as you tell them how you were part of the blogbarian horde that finally turned things around.

1. well, I think its more complicated than that
I think the blogosphere is a reflection of the times rather than a creator of the times.
I think a lot of different variables came together for Joe's (apparent) downfall.

-- his stand on certain issues
-- his cozyness with Bush
-- his personal meltdown
-- his campaign meltodown
-- his threat to run independent.

all of those added together make a perfect storm.

3. I agree but..
.... I do believe if you took the blogosphere out of the picture, it would not have happened.

People finally have a forum to air their disgust, and to find that other people share it.

Don't underestimate it.

There is always somebody to bring me down. My trite essay was merely a pathetic attempt at levity, and my own delight at the phrase "the blogbarians have eaten joementum" which I think I should patent before somebody else manages it.

Since we were accused of fomenting the Lamont campaign, we might as well take credit for what appears to be a smashing victory.

7. sorry, I need to amend my post
I didn't mean that the blogosphere had nothing to do with it, I think that the blogosphere was the glue that held all those elements together.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. By saying it was reflecting the situation, I"m meaning it was reporting on all those disparate elements, and BECAUSE it was, and the poodle media wasn't, they were the reason it changed.

but its like saying the conducter played the symphony. In a way, he does, but he's gathering together all the different instruments.

Not sure if I"m still making sense at this point.

did not mean to rain on your parade at all.

go! team!

2. This reminds me of that West Wing episode -when Josh freaked out
because balloons were coming in before the polls closed. Not so superstitious in this case, though. The locals say the "implosion" rumors are spin intended to suppress volunteers and turn out for Lamont-

5. Human beings vs. barbarian reptiles from outer space
Joe did it to himself when he laid with the lizards. We the People cried 'foul' the only way we could.

10. If I have learned ANYTHING over the last 6 years...
It's to not anticipate good news. When he's gone, he's gone. Until then, anything can happen.

11. Me too, and I'm in CT
Thankfully we still have the old fashioned lever machine with several levels of checks.

But the Lieberfaithful have come out of the woodwork and TEN MILLION CORPORATE DOLLARS are buying lots of lies. That being said, in my district (CT2), a whopping 16% of people support the war. IIt will come down to turn out and the trend definately favors Lamont.

Joe left town many years ago.
