Indian state bans soft drinks after Coke, Pepsi gets toxic label
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/08/04/060804150522.alsdl1pq.html

Federal MPs Thursday demanded a nationwide ban on Pepsi and Coke after the privately-funded Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said 11 drinks sold by the two US companies contained unacceptable doses of pesticides.

A two-judge bench of India's Supreme Court, meanwhile, gave the two firms a month to reveal the ingredients of their products, officials said.

The court reacted to a public lawsuit which argued products sold by both the firms were deeply laced with harmful chemicals such as phosphoric acid, caffeine and aspartame.

Pepsico and Coca-Cola have rejected the CSE's report, saying customers interests were their paramount concern.

6. Too right !
Ace stuff for cleaning the past 100 years or so of crap off banjo hooks and nuts. Trouble is that if you leave the parts immersed for too long the plating strips as well. :)

4. I'd bet it's the same formula
...but I'm sure there's no danger of our current government banning anything just because it's harmful to people -- not when it's sold by a major corporation.

Thank GOD For The Centre for Science and Environment!!!!! I would've never known! I just hope they don't find out that my cigarettes contain any harmful chemicals. But if any group is smart enough to do it, I'm sure they can!

10. I got one of those test kits for water --
and dipped a test strip into some bottled water I had. As soon as it hit the water, it turned the brightest color to indicate presticides were present. I mean the VERY instant it touched the water it zoomed to the highest level.

The water was bottled by a soft drink company (I'll let you figure out which one). I called to let them know about the test strip but got zero response from them or the retailer. They finally talked to me after I assured them I wasn't going to sue them; that I just wanted to alert them to a problem. They offered me coupons for free product, which struck me as funny. I had just told them I found pesticides in their product, so why would I want more?

The reason I tested the water was because I was ill without an obvious cause over several months. I drank a lot of the bottled water and got suspicious something might be wrong with it, so tested it.

I later found out the same company sold the same brand water in India and had it pulled off the shelf there because of pesticides. They also ran into a problem in the UK that required them to remove product from stores, but I think in that case it was a cancer-causing ingredient that was something other than pesticides.

The company draws from water supplies where the water is bottled and blamed the contamination in India on the conditions there (run-off from fields). To me, they suggested that the US-bottled water I tested had picked up a pesticide from equipment in the bottling plant and they would "look into it." I never heard another word from them.

I haven't consumed bottle water since that episode.

11. There is no real regulation on bottled water. My mom retired
from a Pa Water Authority and said that it was way more safe drinking tap water. I bought a Purr faucet filter and have enjoyed drinking tap water since!

Bottled water is a scam.
