Missiles neutralizing Israeli tanks

JERUSALEM - Hezbollah's sophisticated anti-tank missiles are perhaps the guerrilla group's deadliest weapon in Lebanon fighting, with their ability to pierce Israel's most advanced tanks.

Experts say this is further evidence that Israel is facing a well-equipped army in this war, not a ragtag militia.

Hezbollah has fired Russian-made Metis-M anti-tank missiles and owns European-made Milan missiles, the army confirmed on Friday.

In the last two days alone, these missiles have killed seven soldiers and damaged three Israeli-made Merkava tanks — mountains of steel that are vaunted as symbols of Israel's military might, the army said. Israeli media say most of the 44 soldiers killed in four weeks of fighting were hit by anti-tank missiles

2. It has a range (not 'effective') of 2 km.

I'm betting these are in Kashoggi's "inventory." The arms trade would deal in these.

9. small light infantry groups against heavy metal
So I guess the question is can a determined light infantry with decent weaponry win a war of attrition against an invading heavily armored force, even if the invading force has total air superiority?

12. The key phrase there is 'invading force'
As in all military conflicts, defenders don't need to win. They only need to not lose.

16. Rule of thumb: Invaders need a 10-to-1 force advantage.
For over 2,000 years, every 'technological improvement' in armor has been overcome with penetration weaponry deployable with infantry.

19. Well, Israel was driven out of Lebanon before...
...and the U.S. out of Viet Nam, so yeah, I guess it can, especially when the aforementioned invaders only add to the number of potential resistance fighters by indiscriminately bombing innocent civilians.

Isn't that what Israel wanted?

Russia -----> Iran ------->Syria---------->Hezbollah?

Any other possibilities?

20. The local Lebanese Wal-Mart?
I'm only half-joking - weapons like these are ridiculously easy to get in the Middle East. Why do you think the Kalashnikov is so damn popular there?
