and speaking of the right, decent thing, Foti is also the one who's pushing the "murder" charges on the docs at Memorial Med Center. You know, those evil docs who stayed at the med center long after it was clear that no rescue or aid would be forthcoming. as one post to NOLA.com stated, "Does Mr. Foti truly believe that these women risked their own lives to stay behind so that they could murder people? How absurd."

we've already discussed it before but to summarize, four people were brutally murdered while a mother and child hid and watched

mother/child gave descriptions

the descriptions were of two black men wearing these (for STP) unusual hairstyles

it is right for the sheriff to warn people to be on the lookout for people of this unusual appearance who are mass killers

if the killers had been a couple of paris hilton lookalikes, and if mr. strain had said, "if you're a twin of paris hilton, expect us to stop you and ask you some questions," would you have howled racism? or would you have said, sure, i look a bit like paris, but i'll answer some questions if it helps find these terrible predators in our midst

reasonable people simply aren't that upset about his comments

unfortunately, because of outsiders jumping in and pulling the statements all out of context, now the racists are all feeling smug because they think it proof that decent, liberal people are stone idiots

you are confusing me and bosshog -- bosshog knows the sheriff (i think) and STRONGLY supports him and has vouched for him as good people -- there are a great many people here who feel that way about him, i am always amazed at how many but he is greatly beloved

i will admit frankly that some personal experiences of mine have convinced me that there IS racism and racial profiling practiced by st. tammany law enforcement -- perhaps not by sheriff strain but by some leo's in this parish

my issue is, by focusing on THIS particular crime and THIS particular statement, people are seizing on a patently silly example

it is clear to any reasonable person that it can't be wrong to circulate the correct physical description of two mass killers

therefore by focusing on THIS statement then all we do is create sympathy for strain and also cause people to disbelieve when actual profiling or harassment occurs

i do believe there is class and race discrimination practiced in STP -- there is DWB based on the type of motor vehicle you drive for example

i'm not defending sheriff strain, i'm saying why the heck are we focusing on a statement that only creates more sympathy for strain and makes him look good and us look silly?

Defense lawyers will be filing Motions to Change Venue in criminal cases on the basis that Strain has poisoned the jury pool against the attorneys by attacking their credibility and honesty publicly.

Strain will be invited to a community meeting along with the President of the National Sheriff's Association and the DOJ on August 14th.

The Department of Justice will do their thing, whatever that is.

A tax election for the Sheriff's Office is coming up in September.

Other public officials will be pressured to distance themselves from Strain's "overtly racist" remarks.

It's not going away.
