I was mean to a Republican yesterday.
I have been out of town for the last week, and came home yesterday to a dozen voice mail messages, one of which was from "Brian" calling on behalf of the Republican Party asking me to support the Republican candidate for Governor. I guess we get these calls periodically because both my husband and I are registered Independents. Anyway, I checked the caller ID, and "Brian" called from a cell phone -- so I called him back.

"Jenny" answered the phone, and when questioned, identified herself as being with the Republicans. I politely asked them NEVER to call my house again, stated that I was being polite, and that there was no way on God's green earth I would *EVER* support their candidate or any other Republican candidate because they had given us George W. Bush, and I would now forever use voting for or supporting THAT MAN as a judgment of whether or not someone had a brain in their head, and was worthwhile as a human being.

There was a bit of stunned silence on the other end of the phone. I then asked if she wanted me to get less polite, because if they ever called my house again, I was going to get less polite.

"Can you?" she asked in a bemused way.

Yup. I then explained to her that Republicans are doing their best to destroy my country, I consider them all to be treasonous worms, and that the only reason I hope there is a hell is so that I can have the joy of knowing they are going to be burning there forever. Did she need to hear anymore, or did I need to get even less polite?

"Uh, why would I want that?"

"Lady," I told her firmly, "YOU folks called ME. Don't do it again."

She hung up.

I'm not a nice person sometimes. Its a terrible cross to bear, but my shoulders are broad, and maybe someday I will overcome it.

In the meantime, I'm starting to wonder if my state needs a check box on the voter registration card: "Are you willing to accept political phone calls from (check box for any party you want to hear from)" because so help me God, everytime I get those PRE-RECORDED CALLS from "important people" (on both sides of the fence) I want to SCREAM.

1. "I was mean to a Republican yesterday." So?
There's no reason to apologize for your restrained behavior toward these oxygen thieves.

5. I was making calls like that
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 07:49 AM by Epiphany4z
for the Dems yesterday. I am surprised they used a cell phone. I called from the Dem headquarters on a phone that comes up on caller ID as coming from the dem headquarters.

10. Like Amway Distributors....
...the leadership convinces the sheep to fleece themselves in order to make the "bidness" grow, thus the RepubliCONS encourage their familiars and minions to spend their own minutes and money to "grow."

The current crop of scumbags took their lessons directly from the most vile family of criminals ever to emerge from Hell: the DeVos/Van Andel clan.

27. Why wouldn't they use a cell phone?
Lots of deals include free weekend minutes--just the times volunteers are most likely to have free.

7. You did a public service!
Gotta tell you, though, being registered as an independent is going to open you up to all sorts of mailings and calls from both parties. Though you might find great amusement in continuing to piss off the Repukes who bother you!

I even have a special whistle near my phone in case of emergency, like a call from the NRA.

9. Frankly, it sounds like "Jenny" was passively asking for more abuse -
and I think repukian phone canvassers find pleasure in verbal abuse!

16. From what little telemarketing stuff I've done, you do get bored of
the usual insults, and if someone is creative and intelligent, then it's kind of a break to keep them going sometimes, even if they are abusing you. You get a thick skin pretty quickly.

12. Actually we can learn a lot from these people
For instance, I received a campaign mail-out for my congressional district (I live in Austin, Texas).

Though it did not state a party affiliation, it was clear that it was from a republican because:

1. It did not state a party affiliation.

2. The ONLY subject of the mailer (and it was pretty text heavy, lots of room) was immigration.

Conclusion:

They know the public has turned on Rethugs. AND

The only think they've got to run on in an informed district like ours, is immigration. And they sure can't get that right.

No worries.

15. I wonder if area republican headquarters have the ability to add names
...to various blacklists or file false data with credit bureau agencies, law enforcement, voting registration files or other data bases? That would be my only concern when talking with someone who represents themselves as being with the republican party. Dirty tricks have been part of the republican campaign tactics for decades.

for five long years. It's high time the repugs heard some of OUR reality. Hopefully the 2006 and 2008 elections will give them more of our reality than they can handle.

28. Good job IdaBriggs. I get nasty almost everyday with them and
all I do is tell them the truth. I drive a truck for a living and listen to those right-wingers blasting their lies through the microphone of their CB radio's. They blame liberals for everything. You would be surprised how damn ignorant neo-cons are. Do you know liberals have had control of both houses all through Bush's first and second terms in office? Iraqi terrorists attacked us on 9-11? and of course when they start losing their arguments to someone who knows the truth, they resort to Bible Thumping and start talking about armageddon...
