Well, I hate to say I told you so, but I (we) told you so.
Two years ago, when I joined DU, I gave the opinion that the Bush Administration involvement in Iraq was to lead to inevitable Civil War. I stayed at DU because I found that so many like minded patriots believed the same outcome was inevitable and that the Bush Administration policy in the Middle East was a recipe for disaster. I am a product of the Viet-Nam era. I remember hearing the same bull-shit from advocates of that war as I do for this one. "You act as though you know more than the Generals". As it turned out then, and is becoming increasingly obvious now, I, and my many DU friends did know more than the Generals. We did, not because we are so smart, but because we can read history. I don't have to go into detail of the Balfour Declaration, Shiite-Sunni clan hatred that goes back generations, Sunni repression of the Shiite majority, the Massacre of Kurds under Saddam, Iranian influence in the region, an underlying hatred and distrust for the Americans and the British. It was all so plain to see. Once Saddam was toppled, Civil War was inevitable in Iraq. If the U.S. left in one month, one year, five years, ten years or a hundred years, Civil War and Sectarian violence was the next step in Iraq.
Now the Generals are shocked, shocked that Civil War is breaking out in Iraq. Holy shit, they could have saved a lot of lives, time and money by logging on to DU to get their information. We would have been all better off if they did.

Army General John Abizaid said "I believe that the Sectarian violence is probably as bad as I've ever seen it...it is possible that Iraq could move towards Civil War."
