What's the point of asking Rumsfeld to Resign?
Hillary is demanding that Donald "By Golly" Rumsfeld resign, but I don't see how it would help anything. The neo cons would replace him with another ghoul post haste.

If you can't make them ALL resign, from bush on down, why bother?

just like always. Why wasn't she calling for his resignation years ago?

16. I'd call it "back-pandering"
It's all about not wanting to end up like Lieberman.

The progressives definitely have the attention of the political handlers who are going to try various gambits, including flashy rhetoric, to prove that their "moderates" aren't really separated from the base.

10. Exactly. It undermines the misAdministration**.
When people say, "What good would it do? They'll replace him with someone just as bad," it strikes me as another desperate Republicon talking point.

4. they should be charged with war crimes, instead, otherwise it
seems like we're ok with the policy, we just don't think they're competent to enforce it.

that was my complaint with Clinton's badgering of Rumsfeld yesterday: the crime she charged him with was incompetence, not a WRONG policy, a FAILED policy.

think about that.

5. Ok, let me take a stab at this one
I question why we should have an impeachment IF we get the majority because I feel we don't have the votes to oust the idiots, the public would get irritated by the waste of tax dollars and there are more important things we need to fix first like the war, healthcare and oh a host of other important issues.

You're right, another bad asshole would take the place of Rumsfeld. But the thing is we need to hold these people accountable. The war has been a disaster and Rumsfeld is top dog - why should he get off free.

6. Correct - this is about accountability!
Rummy and his goons have fucked up BAD and now almost 2600 US servicemembers are dead because of their mismanagement. Personally, I think Lieberman would be a vast improvement over the senile Rumsfeld.

Bush. I'm not convinced that impeachment would harm Democratic popularity. It may enhance it.

13. Then we blame "the waste of tax dollars" on the criminals who...
...got themselves impeached.

C'mon people - let's at least TRY to do justice right, instead of always GIVING UP before we even try.

Albeit, not quite as much as I will if Hillary is the '08 Dem nominee.

I'll still vote for her, but one little performance in front of idiot Dumbsfeld hasn't converted me. Sorry.

8. she knows what she is doing
she is speaking for all the people who were for this mess in the beginning and are now ashamed of how its turning out
that group is quite a bit bigger than those of us who were against it from the start and still are
its a smart move for her politically and I think the calls for resignation hurt rummy & bush and the gop

14. Oh, it matters
If you can split them, you can get a hold on data they possess about the inner structure.

This is one peculiar thing about the Bush cabal; none of the pnac'ers has ever resigned, despite heavy pressure. Only Powell, and he was a moderate. And of course, people from the tier below, and downwards. Once Rumsfeld is out, he's no longer in charge, so they can lean on him. I'd suggest to threaten to send him to the Hague, and make him an example of what will happen to the rest.

There's never been a scratch in their inner structure, and every time anybody tries, they stand together - like a show of force. It's the regime of thugs, just like the nazi's, and the only thing they'll listen to is the heat fired under their asses.

19. Do you think he will?
I agree, he should, but he won't. Its just like impeachment, when will someone at least file the papers? At least try, but then, after impeachment, what would be fixed?

20. not resign, but re-sign. As in for another term.
As in what the DOD is doing to most poor boys and girls who come back from the quagmire known as Iraq.

As in forced to re-sign. Or else.

You might as well ask Condi or Bolton to resign too. They'll only be replaced by someone equally as bad. The fish rots from the head in this case.

30. Iraq is a disaster and was from the start. Rumsfeld has NO control over it
Changing the captain on this half sunken vessel won't change the direction of this horror show.

Smirk will never fire Rumsfeld, because it would be tantamount to Smirk admitting defeat.

In some ways, I enjoy the fact that Rumsfeld gets to wallow in the disaster he created and try to come up with more Golly Gee comments to extricate himself from the carnage he has created. In some ways, I'd like to see him tossed on his ass.

Either way, we are screwed. IraqNam is lost, but for the last bodies home in a bag and the last $ 200 billion or so of squandered treasure.
