A fellow I met at a community concert in the park tonight informed me that Jews are descendants of Eve and Satan (only white Christians are descendants of Eve and Adam).

Further, what's going on in our nation today isn't Bush's fault -- after all, he's a leaf on the Adam and Eve tree -- but is the fault of all the Jews who have managed to steal our "inheritance" and our government.

When asked, then, if he supported the Hezbollah followers against the Jewish citizenry of Isreal. He replied, "The Almighty Lord does not care about this conflict nor how many on either side fall in the fight. As Christian Isrealites (? -- that's a new one on me!) we can only hope the seed of Satan and the subhuman soul-less bring about an end to one another so that we can live free from them."

As he walked away he told me to look up Genesis 3:'something' (it was one of the teens - 13?). I guess I'll have to see if the Old Testament is online.

He didn't smell of booze or nights under damp bridges. He was articulate and obviously educated/schooled. He discussed other events in the community and area with ease so I don't think he hides under his sink.

It was just odd... especially for Iowa.

I grew up among fundies of that stripe, although their main beefs at the time were with American culture, not jewish people as far as I was aware, but the sheer calluousness of the "seed of satan and the sub-human soul-less" comment is profoundly disturbing. According to this from the Skeptic's Annotated Bible, the key passage is the "enmity between... thy seed and her seed."

In Christian Identity theology, Genesis 3:15 is considered to be the most important verse in the Bible.

The serpent's seed includes the Jews and all non-white people; Adam's seed refers to white people only.

Cain was the son of the serpent and Eve, and, after he murdered his half-brother Abel, intermarried with the Pre-Adamic people of color in the land of Nod. All non-white humans are descended from Cain.

After Abel died, Seth was born to Adam and Eve and became the ancestor of all white people.

The serpent's seed (Jews and non-white people) are evil; Adam's seed (white folks) are good. And God forever "put enmity" between them in Genesis 3:15.

The thing is, anyone who's not an absolute moran must realize that God is addressing the Serpent when he refers to "thy" seed: the enmity is between snakes and humans, not Jews and Aryans. Eve/Women shall kill snakes at first sight; snakes shall lie in the darkness, waiting to bite Eve's/Woman's heel.

This explains a lot about Christian Identity idiots, though: given a (surprisingly clear, especially for the Bible) passage detailing the Biblical equivalent of Kipling's "How the Tiger Got Its Spots," instead of taking it as the simple explanation it is for why snakes and humans don't get along, these freaks imagine that Eve and the Serpent actually fucked. Why the need to fantasize about bestiality, I wonder?
