In Tennessee... it's Corker v. Ford
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 10:18 PM by Clark2008
Just thought I'd update y'all on the US Senate race.

As expected (for me, at least), it's Bob Corker, a moderate Republican, taking on Harold Ford Jr., a moderate Democrat.

Ford's not popular on this board, but a vote for Ford is a vote for Lahey as Judicial Committee Chair! :bounce:

Whoops. Forget a link: http://db.tennessean.com/augelect2.php?racetype=USSenate

I know, I know - only 42 percent reporting, but Van Hilleary has conceded and Bryant is just about to.

1. I know this isn't Lamont v. Lieberman, but COME ON
It's, according to the polls, a tight race - neck and neck.

Thoughts?

2. I'm glad that Ford pulled through. Now the $64,000 question -
can he win in November? Just cut away at their majority, district by district, seat by hard won seat until we have the leadership again. THEN we can clean house a la Leibermann style if the incumbents don't fall in line to cleaning up the House and Senate. Get the majority and then put everyone on notice.

The DCCC and the DNC need to learn this isn't their grandfathers, smoky backroom Democrats anymore. We blog, we roar and we expect a hell of a lot more than we have been getting for the last 12 years.

4. Oh, he landslided through the primary - by 85 percent
with five other Dems running.

I'm just wondering how he'll do in the general.

7. I believe the latest Zogby poll on that race is from June
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1125

With a 3.6 margin of error, it was Corker by a very small margin:

Ford: 42%
Corker: 46%

The poll before that was from March, and had

Ford: 43%
Corker: 41%

So Ford is not currently the favorite, but he definitely has a shot.

3. I'm rooting for Ford
I'd much prefer him to a republican, and god knows he'd be a vast improvement over kittykiller Frist, and yes I'd love to see my Senator, Pat Leahy, back as the chair of the Judiciary.

6. Me too Cali!
I've always liked Ford. He has a good presence, has "charisma" and is a good speaker. I'm rooting for him (and Pat Leahy too, of course!):bounce: :bounce:

5. All Democratic Party nominees are popular with me.
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 11:01 PM by longship
Every single one of them are the prospective majority making race.

Support them *all*. Things are so screwy this year any one of them could be the one which makes the difference.

Recent news about Jack Carter (D-NV) has been good, with Jimmy and Mondale going into high gear.

My friend in Tucson says that the Pederson (D-AZ) is spinning through the state like a Tasmanian Devil.

If NV and AZ come into play, we could be looking at a considerable landslide.

I even support Lieberman if he gets the Dem party nomination.

8. I voted for Ford today.
And I had to stand in line for 3 hours to vote. It was unbelievable. But it was the local general election today as well as the primary, and there were only 2 machines. I had the pleasure of voting for 2 of my high school classmates for the school board, and a college classmate's husband for Judge. It was fun!

9. Hi Punkin!
:hi:

I'm in the East side of the state - and I'm tellin' ya - despite it being "Republican" we had some close calls tonight. I got all Dems in my local and state district in VERY Republican Knox County. One beat the incumbent!!

Dem have a VERY good chance this fall.

10. That's great news coming from East Tennessee!
I'm in Clay County, northern middle Tennessee, and it is a Democratic county traditionally. I couldn't help but feel excited that so many people were so willing to stand in line for HOURS to vote today. It just kept running through my mind how wonderful we are all gonna feel in November! I just have to keep believing....we're going to get our country back, and your news is a good indicator!

I remember over the years I lived here on election night, (I just recently moved back) the East Tennessee results came in first, and the Repukes would always be ahead, and then Shelby county, good old Memphis, would come in and put the Dems over the top. We have to hope that happens this year for Ford!
