Why the switch to a vote in favor of the fence?
Why do you suppose the repugs changed heart to the tune of 66 votes on building a security fence along the Mexican border?

Also, the RNC put out a statement that they now favor measures that go far beyond what has been proposed by the misadmins. They used language along the lines of: Whatever it takes.

Huh?

Now, don't get me wrong. I have the time to post on this board because of illegal immigration issues. I had to change careers because I could no longer find commercial construction work in Texas. Illegal immigrants and age have conspired to squeeze me out of my own life-long trade. So, I'm all for securing the border and penalizing companies that hire and enable illegal aliens to break the law as they themselves are breaking the law.

And I don't want hear a bunch of whining about how you just came here for a better life. You are taking MY LIFE away from ME - IN MY OWN COUNTRY! Lucky for me, I'm not your typical metal slinger and I have enough brain cells to rub together to make the adjustment.

But, do I put all the blame for my predicament on illegals? Am I a bigot? Am I a racist? The answer to all three questions is: NO!

As for my work predicament, if companies would obey the laws and not hire an illegal alien and pay him/her half or less what you pay me, the problem would not exist. I am not a bigot or racist. Some of the nicest people I've ever met were of Hispanic descent.

I go to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico on the Mexican Riviera because it's the only goddamn place in the fucking world I feel safe.

When I met my wife, she had 5 children all under the age of 15 years. She is caucasion of German-American descent and her children are Mexican-American. They were all born in America. Their father was an illegal alien from Mexico.

I love them all and though the oldest is now 21 and calls me her daddy (rather than her own father, who she addresses as "Carlos"), another two (boys) appreciate what I've done for their family and for them and the two that are left (boy and girl) are still teenage brats that will come along when they've matured a bit more. I love them without ever thinking about their heritage.

So, don't go flaming me because you think I'm racist for wanting my border to be secure. We're living in a different world now and with Chavez jumping up and down hollerin' about "¡Venido a Venezuela! Le daré los pasaportes falsos con los cuales entrar en secretamente los Estados Unidos a través de América latina." and cozying up to UmINeedAnotherDamnJob of Iran about raising oil exports to the US to $300 per barrel in an effort to crush our economy. Not to mention the extremely leaky Canadian border.

I can only see one potential way that this fence can backfire on liberals...and that's if it serves the neo-cons best interest in their drive to transform our country to a fascist society...another Berlin Wall? Eh?

so if there were no illegals you would just be too old for construction?

2. Hell no!

I've still got plenty of good paying work in me. But why hire my 42 year old ass for $23/hour when they can hire a young man or illegal alien for less than half of the wage I worked my whole life to deserve?

Edit: I reread the above response and decided to add this. If there were no illegal immigrants AND the economy was experiencing GROWTH, then the answer would be YES, I would be able to work if there were no illegals taking the thousands of jobs they have now.

4. Nothing wrong with you wanting to have a secure, decent paying job.
And there's nothing wrong with the guy from Mexico sneaking in to find a better life for him and his family. There's a lot wrong with corporations who use two hard working people as pawns in their quest to decrease the standard of living and increase their own portfolios. I completely understand where you're coming from but I don't think a wall is the answer. You had it right when you mentioned going after the corporations who hire illegals.

Simple rule, if they can't get hired, they won't come over. Nothing else be it a wall, barbed wire, electric fence, or nut-job militias with guns will keep them out.
