CANTON, Ohio - City school officials are trying to determine how records containing the names and Social Security numbers of McKinley High School students ended up at a recycling center.
The documents, used to post course grades, were supposed to be shredded or destroyed, district policy for student forms that contain personal information and are not considered public records.
Ed Herzog, an instructor at Kent State University's nursing school, said he found about 50 of the documents in a trailer while recycling his newspapers Tuesday night in Sagamore Hills, about 35 miles north of Canton.
"They were just laying on the floor. ... They were sopping wet," said Herzog, who took a few forms to show school officials.
