A refreshing bit of honesty from...
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 03:46 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...former Pentagon spokesperson Victoria Clark just now on CNN, and this may not be an exact quote but she said something like:

"You take on Israel in this town (Washington) at your political peril and that's why Congress is minding it's words on this one to a tee."

I'm puzzled at this kind of truth coming from her. Any explanations?

1. Every once in awhile the truth slips out
they can't help it. It really is hard to keep all the lies straight all the time.

2. She said it in the context of Dems playing politics with Lebanon
probably hoping that everyone wouldn't focus on the part of her statement you're quoting. True, it's surprising she let that "slip."

4. That makes more sense now...
...I'd just flipped to CNN in time to catch her saying that.

3. Rs know we can't take on a major war in the ME because
the military truly is in bad shape and she's been sent to toss something out for the masses to get upset about and create an outcry since those spineless bastards in Congress need to win the freakin' election.

VOTE THEM OUT!

5. Remember Ford's Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Brown?
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 04:03 PM by happyslug
He made the comment that an Alliance with Israel was a strategic liability. He was railroaded out of town by making that statement (Which was especially true in the late 1970s when out number one enemy was the former Soviet Union). When people do NOT want to hear the truth, they will punish the messenger rather then address reality.

In 1976 he made some comment at a Duke University seminar, when he suggested that US Jews exerted undue influence in US affairs because they "own the banks in this country and the newspapers." That was big enough but not enough to get him fired, the big fight occurred in 1977 when he called Israel "a Burden". A comment about the Jews owning everything was minor for he had no expertise in that area, but when he made a comment WITHIN his expertise, i.e. the Military, he was attacked. Carter kept him for he had a good mind on military matters, but he was attacked till his retirement.

7. That was my first thought at...
...hearing her say it. She will likely be pressured to appear a little later and back pedal with some kind of BS explanation for that remark.
