If you were a nation with no natural resources and deeply in debt ?
And you found yourself with about a million refugees, what would you do? That is the present situation with Lebanon.

2. They will beg for interational aid.
They will end up under the thumb of the US by way of the World Bank. And this will make them even less free to help their own people against Israel. Which will then make Hezbollah look even more attractive to the people of Lebanon.

3. I wonder why the UAE and other hyper-wealthy Arab states don't
come to the financial aid of their suffering fellow Arabs in Lebanon and Palestine? Hamas and Hezbollah would be far less successful in their recruiting amongst happy, well-fed, middle-class people. Or maybe I'm missing the point. As for the World Bank, hasn't it outlived its usefulness? Is it anything more than just another tool for the neocon conspiracy for world domination?

4. Those are very good questions.
I agree that the world bank is a tool. It's entire purpose has always been to bring the 2nd and 3rd world under US influence and control.

5. UAE sends aid all the time
Just the most recent example:

..."First I had to identify a list of medical supplies, medicines, food and other first aid equipment needed. In order to provide these supplies we had to reach agreements and coordinate with the Lebanese Emergency and Relief Committee, the Lebanese Muslim Scholars Union and the Lebanese Higher Relief Authority, which will distribute the goods.

"Accordingly, and with the coordination of the Syrian Red Crescent and the Lebanese-Syrian Coordination Council, around 70 tons of food and goods were bought from Syria and Jordan and distributed to the Lebanese refugees in Syria."

Bu Melha said that a plane-load of humanitarian items sent by the foundation arrived on Tuesday to Beirut International Airport and more were expected in the coming days, following an agreement with the UAE Armed Forces.

"Lebanon, the country that used to be called the Switzerland of the east is now experiencing one of the most barbaric attacks that has diminished most of its fantastic features, and its people are facing a huge humanitarian crisis," Bu Melha added.

Following an agreement signed with the Lebanese Emergency and Relief Committee and the foundation, 8,000 Lebanese refugees in over 16 refugee camps have been provided with meals. Medical supplies have also been provided, with more on the way.

Bu Melha added the foundation is working on rehabilitating the Al Maith Hospital in Shtoura in southern Lebanon.

"Until the crisis ends we hope that the security situation will allow us to send more humanitarian convoys via land. We are in the process of preparing to build an emergency centre on the border between Lebanon and Homos in Syria, where the injured will be transported to the hospital through the border crossing to receive medical treatment.

"We are also planning to build refugee camps either in Syria or Lebanon. And of course in the long run we are willing to help and support Lebanon and its citizens as much as we can.

"I call on all Arab and international countries to help and support Lebanon and the Lebanese people because they need our help now, and when the war ends, for reconstruction," Bu Melha said... http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/06/08/03/10057325.html

It is also damn hard to get aid anywhere with missiles and bombs crashing around you...

7. They also had a Red Crescent convoy bombed by the Israelis
during the first few days of the most recent conflict.

Remember the orphan girl who had her family blown-up in front of her on the beach in Gaza during a picnic? She was adopted by Shk. Hamdan:

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, yesterday expressed his desire to adopt 11-year-old Huda Ghalia, the young Palestinian whose family members were killed in an Israeli air strike on a northern Gaza beach last Friday.

The family of eight, including a one-year-old baby, were reported to have died following the firing of artillery shells from Israeli gunboats stationed off the Mediterranean coast.

According to WAM reports, Shaikh Hamdan telephoned Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday to convey his offer to adopt the young girl. Shaikh Hamdan requested that Huda be allowed to travel to the UAE to be cared for by his family. President Abbas expressed his profound gratitude to Shaikh Hamdan, but a final decision has yet to be made... http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/06/06/15/10047024.html
