"The Last Plantation" -- Capitol Hill officers say racism in DC

Very interesting; having seen American Blackout, I witnessed myself the one incident in the film where I white cop tries to go after the Congresswoman, probably racial profiling.

1. The only people who deny the existance of racism
are the people who benefit from it.

2. McKinney may not have been wrong to say the incident was racism
Having met her and seen her speak many times I usually trust what she has to say. I thought she may've overreacted charging racism, but it looks as if maybe that wasn't the case.

3. I've been convinced since it happened that she was targetted.
That cop never should have laid a hand on her, and she had every right to react in frustration and anger to what they were doing.

4. I think Last Plantation and American Blackout should be shown to the 4th
District voters before they vote. They need the side they are not seeing badly, lest we see a repeat of 2002 and have the GOP take the seat through a Dem. proxy.

5. I agree. Our own party is trying to push her out
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 01:13 PM by ThomCat
at a time when we desperately need her, and more like her. She's honest, she hits the issues hard, and she does not seem to be corporate owned.

6. So you think she shouldn't be challenged in the primary? NT

7. The problem is Georgia has Open Primaries
The GOPers go and vote in droves in OUR primaries.

30-40 THOUSAND went to vote for her opponent in 2002. You can be sure they'll do the same now.

8. I don't disagree with primaries.
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 01:20 PM by ThomCat
But I don't think they should be open primaries. And the party should be giving her the same support they give other incumbents. It is telling that more Democrats are endorsing Lieberman than are endorsing McKinney.

9. Most Dems don't know much about McKinney
Outside of her own district few people know much about her other than "SHE PUNCHED A COP!"

The corporate-owned media has been after her for a long time, the worst offense when in 2002 it accused her of saying Bush had a hand in the 9/11 attacks (she never said any such thing).

Her Palestinian rights-stances have also brought huge amounts of Israeli money to her opponents.

10. What part of "the party" is endorsing anyone? The DNC does not endorse
anyone. What organization is endorsing? Individuals, of course, are free to do as they wish.

11. The ultra-conservative Georgia Dems outside the 4th
Have been pretty distanced themselves. Congressman Lewis and the civil rights establishment are behind her strongly.

13. They don't have the right to distance themselves? They have to endorse
her?

16. LOL
Yeah a prop video is important before voting.

"Have the GOP take the seat through a Dem. proxy."

Are you even aware of Majette's voting record or are you still sock puppeting?
