Sen Byron Dorgan making great economic sense on CSPAN right now
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 12:24 PM by Armstead
Dorgan is one of those Democrats who has seen through the con-job of Corporate Globalization for years, and has been fighting for more sensible trade polkicies.

He's currently being interviewed on CSPAN (1:25 p.m.) in a replay of Washington Journal.

If you want to hear what more Democrats should be saying and doing about international trade and defending workers, try to catch it.

2. He's not flashy -- But he "gets it"
I wish to hell more Democrats would share his knowledge and intellectual honesty about economiuc issues.

If they did, the Democrats could actually become an effective political force with the working class again.

5. Yes, but,
He and McCain are co-sponsoring a bill (S.1439) to settle the Indian Trust lawsuit, and they need all the support we can give them for it. Go Byron!

6. He doesn't talk like DLC
He goes against many of the DLC tenants regarding global trade, corporate power, etc.HGe's been fighting the con-job of corporate "free trade" since the Clinton years.

He may be a member of the DLC, but if more in the DLC were like him on economic and power issues, they wouldn't have so many enemies among liberals and progressives.

7. Proving what I have said all along...
DLC is a bogeyman...and one needs to look at the person...

DLC is like the trilateral commission...everyone has a theory about how much control they have, when in reality they have almost none!!

10. What the leaders and majority of DLCers say and do give them a bad name
Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 12:42 PM by Armstead
Usually they bash the very poilicies and positions that Dorgan represents.

According to them, the views that Dorgan represents are far-left, unrealistiuc whacko notions.

That's what pisses peope like me off.

4. I waatched it this AM. He also talked about it being a Nat'l Security
issue. What would happen if, in 10 years or whenever, we had reason to go to war wiwth China? We wouldn't have anywhere to buy clothes, no supplier of ships, tanks, etc!

8. he laid out the entire disaster of bushonomics in the hearings
before the first round of tax cuts. he said exactly where we were (surplus and paying down deficit) and what would happen (deficits) and repukes just turned a deaf ear.

they wanted this disaster. we are living in the republican economic dream. it is no mistake, it was intentional.

rich richer, poor poorer, corporations running wild, massive defense spending, destroy all social services. AND the working classes pay for it.

9. This is the way Democrats used to speak. He is a true
populist. What can we do to get the rest of our Dem legislators to start sounding and voting like him?
