Iranian Pres ,anti-Zionist, calling for immedate cease fire...
"Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented," Ahmadinejad said, according to state-run television in a report posted on its Web site Thursday.

Please note, he is ONLY anti Zionist.

4. What I think is immaterial. What matters is the
bogus reasons given for this invasion, the heavy hand with many hundreds of innocent civilian deaths, the unbelievable stench of rotting corpses stuck under rubble where families once lived in peace, where factories, water and power stations, bridges, and now, ambulances and supply lines are being targetted and strafed and bombed by Israel EVEN AFTER THEY GAVE NOTICE AND GOT 'PERMISSION' FROM THE INVADING IDF - yeah, I can tell you what matters.

Israel has lost its innocence, its claim of integrity and and morals. They are bloodthirsty murderers and they are gain the hatred across the globe.

Self defense, my ass. If this is self defense, then Condi Rice is a talented, experienced diplomat.

5. It's fairly likely at this point Israel's military campaign will have
negative repercussions as far as Lebanese sympathy towards Hezbollah goes. Where there was ambivalence if not resentment in the past, Israel's campaign has unfortunately driven many to support Hezbollah as a matter of Lebanese nationalism.

10. k_jerome, may I ask you a question?
I'm curious. Your point with the one-liner is that we should never accuse innocents of "bringing it on themselves." Is that correct? I agree, whole-heartedly. It is inexcusable to ever, ever suggest that innocents in Israel have brought any violence upon themselves. This has no place in a context of international human right and humanitarian law.

So. I've seen a few posters saying "Lebanon should have got rid of Hezbollah" in response to civilian deaths and casualties. Happily, this is not the majority of posters on DU, but on other political boards I've visited, I have seen that idea spread widely. Do you join with me in condemning any suggestiong that Lebanese innocents -- or Muslim and Arab innocents, really -- "bring it upon themselves"?

I would like to be clear on this point. I'm sure you share this viewpoint, but the clarification would be appreciated.

3. You think only one set of interests
have the right to promote regime change? Funny that two of the nuke powers, Israel and the US feel they have that right.

6. I agree with anti-Arab Bush, PNAC, Savage, Rush, and co.
That must mean I hate the Arabs, right? Guilt by association cuts both ways on this, although some are trying to pretend it only applies to progressives.

15. Haven't seen any evidence of that.
Besides, Iran tried earlier to stabilize the situation. I don't like the Iranian goverment but I find no fault with seeking a ceasefire. I don't hate that fully or completely as to oppose him on this.
