"A third of U.S. public believes 9/11 conspiracy theory"
By THOMAS HARGROVE and GUIDO H. STEMPEL III
Scripps Howard News Service
02-AUG-06

More than a third of the American public suspects that federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll.

The national survey of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.

Widespread resentment and alienation toward the national government appears to be fueling a growing acceptance of conspiracy theories about the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon....

Seventy percent of people who give credence to these theories also say they've become angrier with the federal government than they used to be.

Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."

1. The truth may be
that simply having no one at the head of our carping Intel work, that is a real prescient and staff concerned with real security, is mostly enough to guarantee such a failure without much more needed. In any event this belief still provides a shield of murk for the easily named perps. These perps first of all had decided NO DEFENSE is the best eventual offense. It simply was not their priority and they would divert an iota of energy or thought to anything except their pro-active agenda. Now after you impeach their sorry asses for that you may uncover the high probability they did have specific knowledge of attacks. First things first. Incontrovertible and direct evidence first.

Certainly we have had warnings before where the government in effect did nothing but sound alarms, sell duct tape and arrest a few harmless schmoes. Certainly they were prepared to go to war, but even then would only attack whom they were going to attack with or without a terrorist incident. We have seen them for years go ahead with one escalation of agenda after another with or without actual provocation. They have stuck our necks out for years, defenseless, provoking more enemies than ever, ruining our Intel more than ever, and no one has held them to the lowest standard of conduct in national security. They substituted a terror/chaos creating war of profit(for themselves only) and political jingoism for the very thing they should be impeached for. Bbefore during and after any diaster they NEVER cared who lived or died but where the bucks and power were to be reaped. You have to score them high for consistency and total openness there outside their usual habit of secrecy.

Even when gut right, the American public is misinformed and in a fog and eagerly defined by a decrepit journalistic presidential peanut-brain gallery. Why are they asking the people about questions the press will not credit or look into? They are equally amazed when by their poor performance alone most of the American people believe the lies about Hussein, WMD's etc.

Cynical about ALL the government! That must give them more cover and comfort in the rain of just abuse falling upon the red ears of the wide eyed cheerleaders. Impatient for facts. Smelling the rats. The news people are simply astounded. God(Rove) forbid they do their job or look into these stark public desires for truth.

2. What is the big surprise about people being mad at the federal gov't?

What's surprising to me is that the percentage isn't higher, but as more and more people come to realize that the 9/11 attacks were self-inflicted, the percentage will rise dramatically.

3. I thought the article
might have tried to imply that people were mad and SO THEN they believed in the "theory" instead of people being mad that the gov't is a bunch of evil crooks and liars.

Why shouldn't people be mad ? - that's a reasonable response.

4. I'd like to have a barbecue...
...and invite them and the 50% of the country who believe evolution is a dirty lie. It'd be a hell of a time.
