Die Chris Die (Tropical Storm)
A slight sigh of relief on the gulf coast as Chris is pooping out just a little bit.

But lets be SEMPER PARATUS - Always ready. And the Coast Guard's Motto.

2. Yeah, this is good news to a lot of people:
...Chris likely to weaken to a depression later today...
At 11 am AST...1500 UTC...the government of the Dominican Republic
has discontinued the tropical storm watch for the north coast of
the Dominican Republic west of Cabo Frances Viejo.

3. The photo is amazing, looks like it just evaporated
and collapsed into itself.

It doesn't look like winds cut the cloud tops off. Either it ran into a pach of cold water or it just rained itself out.

5. My first thought too!
But then when I saw the Boss as the OP, I knew what it meant.

Sigh of relief for Boss and all the folks on the coast!! But like the Sarge used to say on Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there!"

6. Don't get excited, it's going to get strong again.
Meteorologists knew it was going to briefly weaken, but most say it will be a hurricane before long. The water's too hot.

7. Well, don't die completely. Here is a much needed scenario:
TS Chris enters the Gulf as a tropical storm and picks up more moisture as it turns north toward Apalachicola. Chris makes landfall just west of the big bend of Florida as a strong tropical storm or weak Cat-1 hurricane (no damage!). The storm keeps its tropical characteristics as it tracks up over south Alabama and Georgia and on to the Carolinas. Chris dumps desperately needed rain on the drought areas of the Southeast, with little or no flooding.

BTW: My dad's farm lake (excellent bass and bream fishing) in central Georgia is now 24" low. It will take a tropical system to make a dent in that drought any time soon.
