10. He Sure Doesn't Look Like He Wants To Be There

This not the "superstar" Rummy we used to see during the halcion days of 2002-03. Gone are the one-liners and the cult following. This goon is now naked to show how out of touch and distorted his view of this ugly invasion and the world situation is. I'm hoping Senator Kennedy is loaded for bear today. This could be interesting.

19. General Pace now making his statement with the usual "talking
points" of how proud he is of the military, reenlisting in "record numbers" and the American people are responding to attacks on our way of life. Geeze, Louise, wonder if this man ever had a moment of Zen where he realizes that those many years of service to his country all went up in smoke the day he threw in with this bunch of asswipes?

Abizaid up now. Second verse, same as the first.

In the deep recess of their minds, in the dark hours between midnight and dawn to these guys ever admit, just to themselves, what they have done to this country? How much blood they have on their hands, the countless children, families whose lives have been splintered and torn apart for all eternity because them, the loss of almost 2,600 points of light that will never shine among us again. Do these guys get it?

I'm not talking about the usual and expected agony of any military leader who have lost soldiers in the natural course of waging war. Pace and Abizaid (among others) have to know they have allowed civilian leaders, who have no clue of combat, military strategy, or service to their country to incompetently waged a false and meaningless war. Why didn't they speak up? Why didn't they have the guts to speak truth to power? They might get another star for their epaulets, might be handed another medal by a "cowboy" president but the last three years of their career negates each and every brave thing they have ever done in the service of their country by not speaking up against this administration? How do they sleep at night?

21. Walking On Eggshells
I would hope Abazaid...who has said some critical things in recent months...knows how he has to put up the good front here lest open the doors for even more demoralization within the military.

Rummy doesn't give a shit...he's treated the military like his own Risk game set since day one and lives in his own Private Idaho. Pace got the job cause he looks nice in the uniform and doesn't have the pained look on his face his predecessor had when he had to lie or cover Rummy's ass. Abazaid, on the other hand, is stuck in the never-neverland of knowing that if he crosses Rummy his life gets a lot more miserable and knowing the true situation on the ground in Iraq that has his beloved military stuck with their tit in a ringer. He looks very troubled when he speaks.

As always, the Warner's ground rules are trunacated to enable Rummy to spew his distorted view of things without really having to be held accountable for them. By limiting this panel on the "current situation", it avoids either discussing past clusterfucks or pressing for any realistic view of where things are going. I still haven't heard a real good explanation as to why troops are being drawn into Baghdad (McCain actually looks like he's trying to get at it...sheesh) and definitely no "exit plan".

24. It Was Pure BS
Now...if Democrats win in November, expect this to be one of the first things we'll demand a Democratic Senate and House to do. Stop the bleeding.

However, there's no way in hell the Repugnican party will give up on that open tap of tax payer dollars. Their lobbyists wouldn't tolerate it.

McCain is blowing smoke...again.

Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 10:40 AM by vpilot
Hillery outlined all the Iraq war failures and then asked Rummy point blank, something to the effect of How can we believe that you have any clue that you know what your doing and have the ability to do any better? Sorry can't remember the exact words but the reaction and look on Rummy's face was priceless. It's like she slapped him and he couldn't believe what just happened.
