What a waste, Mr Blair':Grandmother of Scot who died in Afghan ambush
THE grandmother of a Scots soldier killed in an ambush in Afghanistan challenged Tony Blair last night to send his own sons to fight a "needless war".

Lance-Corporal Ross Nicholls, 27, was one of three British soldiers killed by insurgents in the Helmand province of Afghanistan on Tuesday. He died with 2nd Lieutenant Ralph Johnson, 24, and Captain Alex Eida, 29.

Janet Nicholls, 76, from Gilmerton, told The Scotsman she had last seen her grandson Ross in May as he packed for his latest mission. She said she told him: "Keep your head down - we don't want any heroes in this family."

Mrs Nicholls said: "This is a waste, a poor waste. Our boys are fighting in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that they don't understand. They join up to take the king's shilling and then find they are not fighting the enemy after all. They get sent to places where no-one wants them."

She added: "Tony Blair should send his sons out there and see how it feels. We want our boys brought back."

2. new kind of draft: top down with the motto 'to whom much is given....
much is expected.'

Start with anyone affected by the inheritance tax cut.

3. Top down would be nice, but
my guess is the deferments would be worse this time around.
