I've read this blog for a long time. Today, because of Jane Hamsher's utterly idiotic blackface picture of Joe Lieberman, I commented strongly about how much I disagreed with tactics like that, and how important it was to keep our heads on our shoulders and not become overconfident and make mistakes of that nature.

I did not use profanity. I did not attack anyone, beyond calling the decision to post that picture dumb and idiotic. I used no regressive talking points.

My comment was deleted, and I have received no explanation as to why.

I can't continue to support this website in light of this. Deletion of comments because of the point of view they express, and not because of profanity or anything of that nature, is something I thought was unique to Republicans. Apparently not.

I'm now doubly dissapointed in firedoglake. First, for the incomprehensibly stupid posting of the Joe Lieberman blackface photo, and now second, for deleting my posts because they don't fit the desired tone of the blog, because they disagree, and not because they were profane or from a troll looking to incite things.

Sorry, I had to vent.

1. That's too bad. I'm sorry. I like that site a lot.

I agree with you. You shouldn't have been just deleted without explanation. These are RW tactics.

2. Thanks
I'm for Ned too. I fear, though, that this blackface thing is gonna be all over O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh et. al tommorrow. This was just the thing they were waiting for, and now they have it.

I'm still wondering though, who thought that was a good idea?? And why??

4. The picture is all over
They hit the right wing blogs VERY early. They screen captured it and posted it everywhere. Whoever did that was an idiot; I didn't even understand the point.

5. Were they on O'Reilly already??
Or do we have to wait for it tommorrow??

This is the WORST possible timing for something like this. Just fell into Joe's lap. :(

I'd like to SEE what the fuss is all about.

I agree that the description is very STUPID. But if this unfortunate graphic is the 'cause of the day' for the right-wing.... then let's have it!

6. Has anyone else noticed...

that just about the time the Dems are really cooking and things are going really well, they do something incredibly dumb??? Or is it that it's just that the RW talking head scum suckers pounce on everything we do?? They do horrible things but no one seems to call them out. Perhaps that's because Dems just aren't by nature hateful scumbags like these RW talk show hosts.... anyway, this shouldn't matter but the vultures will be all over it. Hopefully the voters in CT have already made up their minds.

Same thing "seemed" to have happened to Busby in CA-50. I think she was going great until the remark about illegals not needing papers or something to help her. Not an important statement in the big picture, but the sleazeballs made it a huge issue. I think they stole the election, but who knows how much that statement hurt. If a Republicant said it, it wouldn't even come up.

The utter and overwhelming hypocrisy of the Right never ceases to amaze me.

7. Usually
And in the Busby case, the issue is manufactured and distributed by the right-wing noise machine. I agree with you that the Busby election was likely rigged.

This, however, was just an incredibly stupid decision by a woman who has worked and filmed videos with Ned Lamont over the past few weeks.

There are few things more effective at turning away black voters than the use of blackface. I expect Liebermann to take full advantage, unfortunately.

10. An "inappropriate" graphic from a website is NOT
"the Dems."

However, the right-wing-media-machine will use ANY crumb --- or MANUFACTURE one to discredit any Democrat.

Lieberman in black-face seems like an artistic statement. Unfortunately, it's too loaded to handle.

I understand the point of the message, but most people would think the following.

"Hrm....Lieberman in blackface posted by a Lamont supporter...Lamont is running against Lieberman.....Lamont wants Lieberman to look bad....so to make Lieberman look bad he puts Lieberman in blackface???....Lamont must think being black is a bad thing!"

13. I went to that unmentionable website and saw the offending pic.
Actually, I thought it was funny, but what do I know? I'm a "white" person.

Here's what Michelle wrote: I am so sure the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP and the civil rights brigade will be protesting this disgusting use of black-face in political discourse. Oh, wait, never mind. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are campaigning against Lieberman, too.

This non-issue will be used in the right's insatiable and never ending utterances to tell black people what to do.

15. Everything in the right-wing-media
has the potential to 'blow up.'

Who knew that Al Gore invented the Internet or was the inspiration for Love Story or who "found" Love Canal? All those were LIES.

Those LIES didn't keep the main-stream-media from repeating them, and countless other lies, over and over and over and over and over again.

The "Media" is it's own institution; pretty much based on class. Distraction is one of their favorite ploys, but I don't think this is one of them. They don't like class or race stuff so much.

The Drudge-to Rush-to Tim Russert pig trough feeding has slowed down a bit.

We will see, won't we?

22. Firedoglake has one issue. Getting rid of Lieberman.
The trend is starting to become worrisome. I've seen more energy from liberal blogs poured into removing a democrat this year, than any republican.

28. She made an error in judgement, but she
apologized for it. Kinda like all the "tar-baby" incidents. If you blow her off for this one thing, you negate all of the good things she has done....mainly like going to CT and actively campaigning for Lamont. Have you gone to CT to put your boots on the ground?

Awhile back, we had discussions here about wedges being attempted between the left-wing blogs. Not saying you are doing this, and understand your disappointment, but let's not turn on our friends for errors in judgement.

It's a great blog, and I expect to continue to read it daily, just like I do this forum, warts and all.

What was it supposed to mean? Lieberman in blackface with Clinton? Are they saying that Lieberman is faking being a black man and.. hanging out with, er.. the 'First Black President'? Are they saying that Clinton's actions supporting Lieberman are like a minstrel show?

Sometimes you just shouldn't let the grad students play with photoshop, me thinks.

35. I'm gloating.
Even Rush didn't exploit this story. He mentioned it, just like CNN.

But, this "story" is going nowhere. A one-day blip. Blackhole.

See, like I said, the "media" doesn't do class or race stories that don't match their templates. This graphic was a stab from somewhere they don't understand.

They didn't get it and they won't go there.

Case closed.
