Mother Sentenced For Cutting of part of Son's Tongue: Probation. WTF?
Mother Sentenced For Cutting Son's Tongue

POSTED: 5:41 am EDT August 2, 2006
UPDATED: 10:34 am EDT August 2, 2006

ATLANTA -- A mother accused of cutting off part of her son's tongue with hot scissors avoided a 5-year prison sentence and was sentenced to 10 years probation.
...
Henry County prosecutors had recommended that Davis serve five years in prison. But the boy's father testified Tuesday that he did not want her to go to prison.
"He told the judge she is a good woman, and he doesn't feel his son is unsafe around her," Davis' lawyer, Rickey L. Richardson, said.

Davis heated a pair of scissors on a stove in August 2004 and held it to her 6-year-old son's neck before cutting off a piece of his tongue as punishment for talking back, authorities said. Her estranged husband, Toby Davis reported the injuries to police and she was arrested.

8. Ayup
Looks like you could be right. Goddamn.
The attorney for a Stockbridge woman charged with child cruelty said she is a very loving and religious person, but that she’s also very “scared.”

“She’ll call me crying,” said Rickey L. Richardson, the attorney for Samantha J. Davis, 33, who is accused of holding hot scissors to her six-year-old son’s cheek because of repeated disobedience. “She understands that no circumstance justifies chastising a child with hot scissors,” said Richardson.

...

Richardson said he does not believe that his client intended any malice.

“Ten or 15 minutes of indiscretion has taken her life and turned it upside down. She wishes that she could take the situation back and not be in it,” he said.

Richardson said that Davis has never been in trouble before or since the incident, and that she was applying principles that she had learned in Bible study and Sunday school when the incident happened.

11. Where the FUCK does she go to church?
St. Joseph of Mengele?

Sweet Bleedin' Jesus on a Garage Creeper, is there no end to the jaded, faded, gnarled and twisted religion-spouting fucks anymore?

Man, this makes me think dark and evil thoughts of retribution and revenge. Thankfully, it will pass and she lives thousands of miles away.

Note: She WILL do this again. Know it. Or something incrementally worse.

19. Yeah, I'm certain of that too
She'll do it again. This'll probably kick her piety into full gear and she'll be a maelstrom of religious rectitude and squirmy impulses. I hope there's always someone with a bat nearby when she's around the kid.

24. what is the most troubling
to me is that this was not done instantaneously. She had time to cool down while the scissors heated and she held them to the little guy's neck. 10 or 15 minutes should have been more than enough time for her to at least get a grip.

This trend is so scary. Those who are believed to be religious are getting a free ride time after time. They are all loosing it. Is this a sickness like alcoholism? Damn. That thought just occurred to me. Oh crap. Well, just like alcoholism, people are still held responsible.

I think it is time for bed. My mind just went "boinks".

5. NO.. JAIL...TIME
The sentences for crimes against children are no where near tough enough. how could anyone do something like this to a child?? This kind of stuff is so sick. But, I think , the courts are far too leniant on these people.

14. A novel twist on "spare the heated scissors and spoil the child," eh?
And the dad defends her? If a man did that to a child, no right-minded woman would stay with him and the kids. How does she face her parents and her inlaws? Anyone in town?

18. Gender role reversal
He calls the cops, then

But the state's case was hampered when Toby Davis filed court papers refusing to cooperate with the prosecution and asking that charges be dropped. The boy also signed an affidavit saying he did not want his mother prosecuted...

I've seen that when women are victims, defending their abusers, but never a man before. I wonder if he's scared of her, or suffered at her hands, too? (which does not excuse him) Most certainly a fucked up family.

Poor kid. It's fucking sick. :grr:
