Wow clueless again
The White House and Congress, caught unaware by Fidel Castro's illness, prepared Wednesday for a possible showdown in Cuba as lawmakers drafted legislation that would pay millions of dollars to dissidents who fight for democratic change.

"It's difficult for us to assess what the situation is," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. He cautioned Cubans against any mass exodus — and Cuban-American exiles against returning to claim property they lost in Cuba.

So we are clueless as to what one of nearest neighboring countries is doing? Isn't that AMAZING! I just can’t understand how the US can continue to ignore Cuba. We have better relationships with countries run by much more horrific dictators than Castro. If the US wanted to reform Cuba wouldn’t the best way to start is by actually having some type of relationship with the country?

3. so, they plan to offer money to people to overthrow their govt?
What a great plan. I'm sure they'll attract the cream of society with that kind of bait. Is it any wonder why none of the US's stupid schemes to insert their preferred kind of government in other countries has been so disastrous?

When will they learn?

And how arrogant to go around the world and try to dictate policy in other countries. Who the heck made them king?

4. They're not trying to dictate. They're attempting bribery
and the usual corruption. What did you expect?

6. i was thinking of visiting cuba a few years ago
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 08:01 PM by adriennui
i never thought of castro as a threat, from what i've read cuba has one of the highest literacy rates and one of the best medical systems in the western hemisphere.
unfortunately, our government(both democrats and republicans) make you jump through hoops to get a visa. when castro dies, it will be the end of an era where revolutionary spirit was an ideal.

i'm probably romanticizing cuba, but i've got my reasons.
