Amy Goodman sounds off on MSNBC's Donahue firing...
This is from an apperance on Hardball:

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hi. My question is, because this entire rivalry, if you call it that, is fundamentally religious, you know, it is something deep seated in these people's beliefs, is this problem ever going to be fixed?

GOODMAN: Well, I just wanted to say one thing before I answer that question. You said—since you said all the executives are on the top of the Rock. I want to congratulate you, Chris, on 10 years of MSNBC. But I wish standing with you was Phil Donahue. He shouldn't have been fired for expressing an anti-war point of view on the eve of the invasion. His point of view and the people he (inaudible)...

MATTHEWS: I don't know what the reasons were, but I doubt it was that.

GOODMAN: Well, we have the NBC memo that was a secret memo that came out that said they didn't want him to be the face of this network, an anti-war face at a time when the other networks were waving the flag.

(CROSSTALK)

MATTHEWS: ... remember me when you answer it. What?

SMERCONISH: The answer to the question is, and I say this as one with four kids, I don't think it is going to be solved in our lifetime, because they are raising their kids to hate and want to kill our kids. And that's the reality. And until those madrassas are solved and they stop preaching hatred against the Jews and the Americans, we're never going to get beyond this.

MATTHEWS: Well, if being against the war was a problem here, I would have been out of here about four years ago, because I've been against this war from day one, and that didn't cost me my job.

GOODMAN: I congratulate you, Chris...

24. We're absolutely reinforcing hate, and it's coming from the airwaves...
Tune into Conservative Christian, Conservative Radio or Cable News program at any given time and you'll get your "US against THEM" fix... Don't believe me? Here's just a FEW anti-muslim quotes in the past year or so (courtesy of Media Matters)...

"These (Muslim) people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power. It is Satanic and it's time we recognize what we are dealing with... Islam is not the religion of peace." - Pat Robertson.

"We should invade (Muslim) countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity."- Ann Coulter

"(is there) anything better than diet, Korans, and Prayer rugs? I mean Where else can Muslims go in the world and find everything they need? There's no better place than Gitmo. Club Gitmo, the Muslim Resort." - Rush Limbaugh

"If people think Islam is such a wonderful religion, just go to Saudi Arabia and make it your home. Just live there. If you think Islam is such a wonderful religion, I mean, go and live under the Taliban somewhere. I mean, that's -- you're free to do that. - Rev. Franklim Graham (Billy Graham's Son)

"They are very depressed by the weakness that America is showing to these psychotics in the Muslim world. They say, "Oh, there's a billion of them." I said, "So, kill 100 million of them, then there'll be 900 million of them." I mean, would you rather die -- would you rather us die than them?" - Michael Savage

"I had a long talk with a friend that I admire very much yesterday. He's a very deep conservative, gives a lot of money to conservative causes, but he's very -- he's very frustrated. He looks ahead and he says, "They're going to win." I say, what do you mean they're going to win? I said we know what nations are the nation state sponsors of these suicide bombers. We know they're Iran, we know they're Syria, we know they're Saudi Arabia. We all know that. I said, there's (sic) very simple solutions.

You got to wipe the nests out at the top. Take the head of the snake out, and suddenly, the bombs stop. He says but there's a billion some odd -- 100 million of them. I said, yeah, well there's (sic) over a billion Christians. How come you don't hear about there's (sic) a billion Christians that could be marshaled to defend Western civilization? Why is nobody telling the Christians to stand up and survive, or they're going to disappear, or their children will become slaves, or be forcibly converted? Why? Well, there's (sic) a million answers. The number one answer is because liberalism has perverted Christianity. Liberalism has perverted every religion on this planet. Liberalism is a cancer. Liberalism is a virus. Liberalism is a mental disorder. We are at war and we know it."
- Micheal Savage

I guess it's just so much simpler to make decisions when everything is drawn out in "Us vs Them" Black vs White" terms... :eyes:

Amy Goodman challenges Hardball on Phil Donohue’s firing
By: John Amato @ 12:49 PM - PDT
I’ve had a few technical problems today. The site was down for a while so until I have a chance to make the clip, check out Goodman taking MSNBC to task for dumping Phil Donohue as they celebrate their 10 years.

I have the video clips now Video-WMP Video-QT

Amy Goodman’s proof is true. Donohue was fired because he was against the Iraq war. Olbermann still might have had a show either way. Maybe there would have been no Tucker?

16. Tweety was a total Reich wing whore, as usual...he interrupted her
constantly; kept saying "Let's give Michael a chance to get in on this," gushed and fawned over him, and couldn't even get the name of Amy's "Democracy Now" program right...
He's disgusting.

18. Chris was so up Bush's butt on all other matters.
He was against the neo-cons and the Bush Administration, probably because he knew how dangerous they were when he served for the Carter Administration.

19. Tweety performed the public execution of DONAHUE
Just to keep harping on Tweety's evil. This is for those who like Tweety for his pre-RAYGUN Dem operative role, for those who think he was anti-war about Iraq, who think he was anti-war because of his draft-age sons, who think when-he's-on-OUR-side-there's-nobody-better...

Tweety was on his book tour for another one of his "books" (large type, wide spaces between lines, blank half-pages). It was in the jingoistic hysteria in the run-up to the illegal Iraq attack. Whatever he wrote in his "Liberal" columns, he was totally on board for the "Americanism" of the attack.

So Phil welcomed him as a colleague and peer on Phil's show for the full hour to plug the book. Btw, Tweety is not a peer to the towering Phil (let it not be said I never said something good about a NADIR supporter).

I saw this as it happened, as later when Tweety ambushed and slashed at Dennis KUCINICH and Al SHARPTON. From the moment he appeared, there was a strange, deadly snake look in Tweety's snake eyes. Phil was walking around, apparently not sensing anything, while Tweety was motionless, following him only with his eyes. Phil was cordial, though by now he must have been aware that Tweety was no longer a Liberal.

The book was about supposed "Americanism" --an American Civ 101 ripoff about books and movies and cultural stuff that are essentially American (think, "The Great Gatsby"). Phil brought up something or other questioning of blind jingoism, and Tweety STRUCK!

He started out with venom dripping, "You see THIS is EXACTLY what's wrong with you Liberals: You are NEGATIVE about this country, you find NOTHING good about it," and on and on, just this side of doing the Dan COULTER/"Traitor" thing. It took awhile before Phil figured out what was happening. Later, Phil was sitting at the table with Tweety and, weaker and weaker, kept trying to bring up stuff for improvement, and in the process did some of his shoulder shrugging and arm waving.

Tweety lashed out again, "What's THIS (mimicking the movements), what's with the MONKEY movements???" That's our Tweety. Shortly after that, just a few days later, Phil's cancellation was announced and took effect.

23. He's been ambiguous on the war "from day one."
Sure NOW he's fully against, and he raised some concerns early on, but his style of point counter point absolves him of responsibility for any opinion on his show, ever. He's continually playing both ends, that's his schtick.

25. Chris Matthews is the worst anti-War spokesman I've ever seen
Maybe if he can take his eyes off "the bulge" long enough to stop suggesting we put Bush on Mount Rushmore people would would take his supposed anti-War stance more seriously. Or at least be aware of it.
