It's a wonder nobody ever tried this defense before. What a sicko.:puke:

Admitted pedophile Phillip Distasio of Rocky River introduced a bizarre defense Wednesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to the 74 charges lodged against him.

He said sex with under-aged boys can be therapeutic, and is an element of a religion he established in his apartment where the suspected crimes occurred. By bringing the charges against him, Distasio said, the state is violating his civil rights and his freedom of religion.

"I'm a pedophile," Distasio, 34, told Judge Kathleen Sutula during a hearing. "I've been a pedophile for 20 years."

1. Watch this defence not work.
A religion adhered to by only one person is known as a delusion.

3. Indeed. Even widespread religions have a hard time justifying illegal...
activity. Rastafarians, after all, stil can't smoke weed in the U.S., regardless of their view of it as a sacrament

8. Even that's different
There are a few relgions where you can use Peyote...

It's one thing to have a religion that says you can do something when it doesn't affect other people....It's an entirely different thing if your religion says you can do something that affects another person against their will...as minor's don't have legal rights, you can't have a religion do anything to a minor that would harm them for any reason...

By this idiot's same logic, I could have a religion that says it's ok for me to beat him senseless with a baseball bat whenever I want, not matter whether he wants to or not.

Totally different ballgame than Rastafarians who just want to smoke weed on their own and not bother anyone.

11. Obviously, I agree that the two laws are not the same...
being something of a drug-using dilletante myself, I'd hardly compare it to pederasty. That wasn't the point. The point is that, even in a widespread religion, illegal acts may not stand up in court. That's all.

I'm also well-aware of peyote use, but even that is extremely restricted -- only so-called holy men, not church followers, and only within tribal land (reservations).

5. Fine, it's a religion
That doesn't make it legal to do it though. What if my religion says it's ok to murder pedophilic fucks like this guy? Should I not be subject to our nations laws?

Illogical bullshit. That he would even attempt this sort of defense makes me really want to beat the shit out of this turd.

12. The Catholic Church has been claiming religious exemption for decades
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 03:20 PM by TechBear_Seattle
Why else would so many bishops have been involved in conspiracy to cover-up evidence of pedophilia by priests under their jurisdiction? And why else would the Vatican have given sanctuary (not to mention prestigious sinecures) to bishops fleeing justice for their part in that conspiracy?
