4. It's not playing well on my computer

but I think I caught enough to get the general idea.

First of all, this speech was given 14 years ago and is based on trends that were in place 14 years ago. Since then, NCLB has begun to completely destroy public education. So many of her points are moot.

Secondly, there is nothing terribly wrong with Outcomes Based Education. This woman's explanation of it is incorrect. Her examples are ludicrous. Outcomes Based Ed, even with the criticism she is offering, is far better than the test driven curriculum we have in place now. As much as I didn't like Outcomes Based Ed, I would take it in a heartbeat over the crap they have in place now.

Third, Phyllis Schaffly could have written this speech.

Now if you are concerned about public education, why not educate yourself about NCLB and fight that instead of a program that is no longer in place and used in very few school districts in the 21st century?

5. Parents should really be aware

Of the kind of testing going on in our schools. Remember when learning Reading, Writing and Arithmetic was what schools were all about. Now it's about turning out mindless drones who will follow the leader like zombies.

6. I watched enough to know that the speaker is a freeper

who is deathly afraid of communism (or something like it).

Education should cover things that you say, reading, writing, etc.

It should also cover world history and geography and science.

And it should teach self esteem as well.

But mostly, education should extol the virtues of learning for it's own sake, to question everything, and how to apply scientific principles to everyday life.
