Jon Stewart has the solution for Israel, make it a International zone.

I know this is unlikely but the world would be a far better place if the area was internationalized zone and had a unbiased government to all people there be guaranteed of freedoms of religion, race or creed. And allow anyone that wants to live there the same rights no matter if they are Jewish, Christian, Muslim or whatever.

2. No way
That would go over like a lead balloon and probably cause more problems than it solves. At least now, some people (the Israelis) are happy, but with that solution, absolutely nobody would be satisfied.

7. Happy, in that they have what they want
A state of their own. After 2000 years of struggle, they are not going to give that up for the supposed "security" an international force could provide. Besides which, the fanatics among the Arab population will still attack the Jews no matter what, but then the Jews would have to turn to others for protection. They tried that during the early days of British rule, and it didn't work to their satisfaction. That's why the Jews started arming themselves...

It really is a cycle.

5. Pootie Poot suggested that a couple of years ago.
made some statement about putting international neutral troops in Israel for the sake of fairness or something like that. The only problem is finding neutrality on the issue is nearly impossible. It'll never happen though.

6. That theory has been kicked around for decades.
I think it could work, too.

8. US should take over the whole ME, make it part of the US, then
anyone can live anywhere. Not just Israel---ALL OF IT!

10. Who is "unbiased"?
Whatever group would go in there would just be a target for the groups already there. Any government setup would be attacked as bias if for no other reason then the existing groups will push it to gain some advantage.

11. I've wondered if it could work, many times. It might create its own
problems, with security, etc. to have such a zone, though it sounds great in theory.

12. Interesting idea
Part of the original plan was for Jerusalem to be an international zone. No religion can claim they can't go there.

It is looking like a failure to have a "Jewish state" right there. They cannot "defend themselves" without killing civilians. So maybe it is time to try something else.

13. jerusalem international city
jerusalem was supposed to be an international city under the original partition plan. unfortunately the UN failed to enforce that. from 1947-1967 jordan controlled it and only moslems were allowed in. homes and businesses were built on the square of the wailing wall.

in 1967 israel captured the old city. since then all religions have been allowed to their holy sites with each religion administering their respective sites. that is pretty international to me.
