Pew study citing Rush Limbaugh listeners among "most informed"
http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?PageID=1068

Judged by their answers to three news knowledge questions2, the most informed audiences belong to the political magazines, Rush Limbaugh's radio show, the O'Reilly Factor, news magazines, and online news sources. Close behind are the regular audiences for NPR and the Daily Show.

I heard this on Rush's show and immediately wanted to retch. I can almost always tell when someone listens to him regularly because they almost always use the same talking points, it's amazing. I looked at the fine print of this study...this is how the research determined how informed people were, they ask them these three questions:

Which party has a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives?

What is the name of the current U.S. Secretary of State?

What is the name of the current president of Russia?

That's how they determined how informed someone was? jesus...

21. Very true...my college statistics prof would be going nuts. If a REAL poll
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 12:43 PM by WePurrsevere
were done about which political party has the most LIARS I'll bet the CONs would come way out ahead. They're programed to lie and especially for polls. Just like anyone can register as a Democrat and be a dyed in the wool RepubliCON so too can anyone can SAY they have a college degree while the only PHD they may have is one as a "post hole digger". Pollster's take you at your word but what is said doesn't make it any more true then this administrations BS about WMDs in Iraq.

Questions in polls are often designed to get the results the person/company commissioning them wants so I'd like to know who commissioned this and... what turd blossom (Protégé?) came up with those BS questions?

(edited to fix spelling)

28. Breakdown according to party voting

Republicans and Democrats were pretty even on control of the House of Reps, and the Secretary of State - it was the non-partisan 'president of Russsia' question on which Democrats were significantly behind the Republicans. And the 18-29 age group scored a shameful 15% on naming Putin.

than women by double on the Putin question (42% to 23%) So does that mean that only 10% of 18-29 year old women knew the answer to that question? Wow...

5. They need to build their fake credentials.
Their audience needs some kind of credential they can repeat over and over again to convince themselves that they are smart.

22. Repetition is not the same as informing
Anyone who spends three or four hours a day listening to any news source will know those answers, by osmosis. If they want to truly measure knowledge, ask what three ethnic/religious groups dominate Iraq, or something that requires a LITTLE thought, not just regurgitation of names you've heard a million times a day.

This sort of test is going to distinctly favor quantity over quality. And as we know, Rushbo listeners are glued to the radio for three hours every day. When they asked Rush listeners to explain the U.S. healthcare system back when Clinton was trying to get reform passed, Rushbo's audience both claimed that it was the best informed on the subject and was the least able to answer questions about the present and proposed systems.

So, this is total BS>

Over 50 questions I believe, and people that listened to Rush et al were the least informed.

It was the PIPA study at the University of Maryland.
