I love how the corporate media is crucifying the shit out of Mel Gibson
and how they're spending so much time on their broadcasts covering how awful he was when he got arrested the other day.

Funny, though, how this same media completely avoids taking up a similar lynching of another well-known celebrity.....one who's guilty of atrocious war crimes....one who's responsible for the murder and/or suffering of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians....one who's a thousand times more sinister than Mel Gibson. Make that a million times.

A great portion of time on the news and talks shows this morning was alloted to Mel Gibson and how terrible a person he is.

A similar portion of time on these same shows was given to President Bush and what a fine physical specimen he is, according to the results of his latest physical.

One is being railroaded by the media as an outcast. The other is being treated like a saint. Somehow, somewhere, someone's priorities have gotten really fucked up along the way.

2. What Exactly Did Gibson Say
I never heard (or read) those controversial comments he made when he was caught.

12. So? Is it worse than what chimpy says
routinely on TV? "Axis of Evil" is responsible for all the wars in the world, for example?

4. My point is that the media should be spending equal time crucifying Bush
If they can spend so much of their time telling us how terrible Gibson is for what he did/said...and at the same time joking about how physically fit our "president" is, then they've got their priorities backward.

Gibson was wrong for whatever antisemetic remarks he made, and he's paying a dear price in the press for it. At the same token, what price is the master criminal of the world paying?

17. They should, but instead we get "bread and circuses."
Not to say Mel's tirade isn't news, but if they wanted to crucify *, the bosses wouldn't allow it.
Mel is fair game.

5. They won't be happy until he is totally destroyed.....
and what gets me angry is I think Mel Gibson is a real jerk, yet I feel the need to defend him. He had some drunken ravings and it is being blown out of proportion. The media loves destroying people except for Bush. That man says and does things that are unbelievable and nary a word from the media.

9. Exactly
I don't like what Gibson said either, but it pisses me off to no end that Bush gets praised over for his fine physical fitness on the same exact shows where so much time is given to Mel Gibson and what happened with his incident. It's like they're showing who's bad (Gibson) and who's nice (Bush).....when they should be showing who's bad and who's a trillion times worse.

15. Didn't Mel say that his next movie
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 11:36 AM by Downtown Hound
about corrupt, fear-mongering Mayan rulers was an analogy for Bush? Oh, and here comes the media jumping on the destroy Mel bandwagon right as his anti-Bush movie is getting ready to roll out. How interesting.

I'm not defending Gibson. I think he's an asshole. I never even saw Passion of the Christ because it just seemed to me to be too much of a fundamentalist's fantasy. Gibson is a man with a lot of personal demons. But who's going to take him seriously now? Not too long ago he was the darling of the right, even though he's never been a big Bush fan. With Gibson's clout among the freepers for his Jesus movie, if he went and made a movie criticizing Bush, even if done metaphorically, it could do some pretty serious damage with the hard core Bush supporters that are still left.

I guess we don't have to worry about that now, because the media has once again managed to destroy someone with influence that was going to speak out against him, and Mel was stupid and idiotic enough to give them the perfect opportunity.

16. He'll pull though.
After all Roman Polanski managed ok. Didn't know about the Mayan film which sounds interesting - I usually buy DVDs when they are released. Nope - have not seen Passion either but then I'm not really into films where the whole dialogue is in Aramaic !

Needless to say the whole Gibson issue is a non event here in the UK and I'm bemused it's occupying oh soooooooo many threads on DU.

11. Sure there could
I don't think it's any coincidence that they're building one piece of shit up in the only way they can (the results of his latest presidential physical) and running another celebrity into the earth at the same exact time for his durogatory comments he made when he was arrested.

10. Mel Gibson has a blockbuster movie coming out soon..
bankrolled by Disney. He's getting tons of publicity, all be it not in a very good way, but as they say in the business, the only bad publicity is no publicity at all.

On the other hand, this new movie has something to do with Mayan mythology and was filmed in Mexico I believe, so maybe it is the revenge of the Mayan Gods? :tinfoilhat:
