Will the Repukes run in the 2006 election on anti-Semitism?
I feel like another Karl Rove "whisper campaign" is in the works.

The average American associates "Jewish" with "liberal", no matter what role that Jewish neocons have played in the admin's foreign policy.

Shift the blame in Iraq to the "Zionists."
Embroil us in a war that most Americans blame on the Jews (a la Mel Gibson)
Make sure to get Democratic congressmen on the record as unequivocally supporting Israel
Paint the Democrats as "Israeli first-ers"
Let Fox news and other cable outlets subtly stir the pot
Let Americans draw their own conclusions.

2. No way
I mean in some districts, maybe, not not nationally.

They are too wrapped up in protecting Israel.

5. No, it'll go the other way around. This morning, I saw the WJ host
pointing to an article about how Jews were losing faith in liberals. Anybody catch what paper or more information?

It sounds like one of those plants later used to cover election fraud.

12. Good eye...
The Likud types have been salting this meme for a couple of years -- the threat to Jewish people and Israel is NOT the traditional rabid real anti-semites holed up with their crank ZOG raps, denial literature or freaky 'kill all the jews' fundamentalism, but the UN, peace groups, liberal 'dupes', academics, arab moderates, etc etc.

In fact it is anyone with any authority that might contradict Israeli press releases or question Israel's various bogus investigations of it's various massacres.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time in US politics that patriotism was used to trump reason. Here at DU it never seems to occur to people that some of the supporters might have a twofold purpose: support Israel (noble depending on your point of view) and 'wedge' Democrats.

Who else is promoting Bushism foreign policy without reflection at DU?

6. Au contraire.
They'll paint liberals as anti-Semites for calling for a cease-fire.

The irony will be that ACTUAL anti-Semites will go along with it!

You just watch.

13. That's right. They're going to call us anti semitic terrorist
supporters.

Their capacity to project is boundless.

7. I hope you're all right
But let's not forget the "War on Christmas" either

It's not easy trying to anticipate what pure evil is going to do to win in '06. I'm already hearing strains of "This whole mess is all the Jews fault" beyond just drunken Mel Gibson tirades. It doesn't matter if the Jewish members of PNAC went on tv tomorrow and said "Our action is the Middle East is all part of our plan to protect the motherland.", middle America would still blame liberals.

Remember, Rove is the man who remade a Connecticut born Ivy Leaguer, the son of a President and grandson of a Congressman, into a cowboy hat wearing, brush clearing outsider. He is a master at manipulating embedded racial prejudice. I hope you guys are right, and I'm just paranoid.

8. Crazy...?
They will do exactly what they have been doing since 9/11 -- smear Democrats as supporters of terrorists and accuse Israel's critics of anti-semitism, which liberals tend to live in fear of being called.

Why would they have to blame the Zionists or 'dual loyalitists' -- the GOP is hoping to pick up a lot of that support by suggesting that the Democrats are weak on Israel...not the other way around.

9. They've been courting the jewish vote and getting more of them
How would they explain being so obviously on Israel's side. Plus the fundies are on Israel's side. Ironically, most of them also hate Jews so try to figure that one out....

10. This is why I'm afraid it could work.
The fundies are more anti-Muslim, than pro-Israel. If things start to go badly, and blame is shifted to the "dual-loyalists", the fundies would line up against them in a heartbeat.

14. How do we know they've been getting more votes in that
demographic?

Do you have a source I could peek at? They make all kinds of claims that later turn out to be false but by then, they've been repeated so often they might as well be true.
