I think this will make you smile, it did me.
Saw "An Inconvenient Truth" and you know, of all the politicians in
the last 30 years Al Gore is one of only two I trust. The other is
Jimmy.

Al thinks it can be curbed and he alludes to the beasts that are China
and India, but the fuse is lit. There's no stomping this fire out.

And the House has put forth a new bill:

The PROGRESS Act has five major components:

* Establishing a National Energy Security Commission that would
bring together government, industry and academic leaders to develop
national goals that respect regional energy solutions and develop
recommendations that Congress would have to act upon under expedited
rules.
* Establishing a New Manhattan Center for High Efficiency Vehicles
that would create an advanced vehicle efficiency consortium and commit
a minimum of $500 million a year for ten years to federal alternative
fuels and vehicle technology programs in the federal government.
* Establishing a National Biofuels Infrastructure Development
Program that would reimburse private sector partners to share the
costs of investing in the wholesale and retail biofuels pumps, tanks,
and other related distribution equipment.
* Promoting Transit Use & Developing a Rail Infrastructure Program
that would create a stimulus package of infrastructure investment that
upgrades the pipeline for biofuels – the freight rail system – in
order to get an affordable and reliable supply of biofuels to market.
* Ensuring Federal Government Leadership in the Use of the
Alternatives to Oil by increasing the use of alternative fuels in
federal and state fleets, developing biofuel plants in every region of
the country, and speeding development of standards that are needed to
promote alternative fuels use.

It must be like slinging mud against a wall. You throw as much as you
can hoping something sticks. I can't see any part of this being
swallowed by those currently in power. Much to my chagrin.

1. According to the top scientist on this stuff - who was on 60 minutes
Sunday. We have 10 years to the tipping point. I think it is probably less than that - may have already tipped.

But some good news in our paper this morning - Americans are starting to shift away from the big vehicles.

I personally think that Americans will all shift over to minis just like the Europeans. Pretty soon the "cool" thing will be to have the miniest mini.

I'm all for that.

You could park one just about anywhere.

I think I am seeing more and more really little cars on the road.

3. Also, our city is going to start offering Green Energy Rebates.
Apparently Delmarva Power has been doing it for awhile, but Newark hadn't planned on it until now. It's a rebate that you can get (up to 22K) for converting your house to solar. Kinda kool - made front page news on the local paper.
