How do we defeat the Enemy Combatant Military Commissions Act of 2006?
This bill strikes the word "alien" from the legal phrase "alien enemy combatant" (so that US citizens may be considered enemy combatants)

This bill specifies that those deemed enemy combatants (and their lawyers) do not have the right to see the evidence against them.

This bill states that hearsay is acceptible even when it is the ONLY evidence.

This bill revokes the right to a speedy trial.

This bill affirms that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to enemy combatants.

This bill states that enemy combatants are not just those who provide material support for terrorism and commit mass murder. Under this act anyone who gives "aid and comfort" to terrorists is an enemy combatant.

We know that the PATRIOT act states that if an enemy combatant is a citizen, they lose their citizenship.

I would like it if we could stop arguing about Israel and Hezbollah and Castro and other issues that we have very little influence over for just one moment so that we could figure out a strategy, an organized response to lobby our Democrats to fight this Orwellian legislation.

5. Do you mean they are supposed to vote for it when
they come back from break....I suspect they will try to...because many of the Repugs may lose their seats in November...

the legislation as well so as to determine our chances at defeating it. Also, how many repukes oppose it. Then we will know our chances.

6. I think we should find out when it's slated to be voted on.
If it is before the elections, we need to make a concerted DU effort to find out where all of our Dem leaders stand and find out what republican congressmen will vote against their bloc. It wouldn't be a bad idea to instill paranoia in the far right religious groups who believe they are persecuted and are going to be rounded up into camps-- if any of us have connections in those communities (even through trolling).

7. I would like to know when it's slated.
Seems like I'm always emailing and writing letters though. Maybe personal visits are next. Face to face is hard for a politician to delete or round file.

8. I don't see a reference number attached. I'm trying to look it up.
I really enjoy lobbying my politicians in person.
