'We Cannot Wait For Another Shooting'
August 1, 2006

By Tracy Vedder

<snip>

...Senator Patty Murray wants to know why the feds are still sitting on $25 million that was supposed to beef up security at non-profits around the country.

<snip>

Long before the gunman (involved in the shooting at the Jewish Federation in Seattle) thought about attacking the center, Congress agreed to spend $25 million to increase security at non-profit organizations around the country that might be targets, such as temples, mosques and community centers.

But Senator Murray says that after 10 months, the White House and Department of Homeland Security have still not released the money.

<snip>

"They're leaving us vulnerable to another tragedy just like the one that occurred in Seattle last week," Sen. Murray said.

+++++++++++++++

But this is not the only view expressed in the article. Both views need consideration.

1. Perhaps they want a terrorist attack to happen?
Wouldn't a horrific incident where four or five gunmen attack, for example, a public school and kill dozens of students be a perfect pretext for declaring martial law?

USA leads all advanced nations in homicide, deaths by guns and all this while suffering the highest prison population of almost all nations. Think Cheney cares?

3. Funny...
...but the last liberty I want to sacrifice to these bozos is the right to own a tool I could use to defend myself from them. I guess the rest of you trust Bush and Gonzalez to decide who "deserves" to own a gun?

4. The last right standing will be the rotting 2nd amendment, it's worthless
Most third world nations like Afghanistan, etc have wide open gun policies and it sure doesn't make them free. Tell the Iraqis about how guns are helping them.
