By Shmuel Rosner, Haaretz Correspondent, and Reuters

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Vice Premier Shimon Peres disagreed Tuesday on the expected end to Israeli military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Rice said that a cease-fire could be reached in Lebanon within days while Peres said the fighting may go on for weeks.

While Israel would like another 10 to 14 days for an expanded air and ground offensive, senior officials in Israel also acknowledged that the Security Council could intervene before then to impose a cease-fire.
