16. In a socialist economy, everyone is equal. Castro is clearly wealthy.
What's dishonest about what I said?

17. The assertion was made by you that he is worth 900M
That assertion is bullshit. When challenged on it you then attempted to shift the argument entirely rather than defending your original assertion. That is a classicly dishonest rhetoricial tactic.

38. No, because we have legal private ownership of assets here.
We know what's mine and what's yours and what's Bush's. In Cuba, everything belongs to "the state" and by extension, Castro.

33. I'm just trying to better understand what happened in Cuba.
My knowledge of the Cuba is admittedly lacking. What kind of entrepreneur was your grandfather? Did everyone just have their property taken from them, or was there some other reason? Did your grandparents have connections to the Batista government?

Please tell me he's not someone I'm supposed to consider a hero too. Shame on me if I've missed threads propping him up as such, but I'm hoping I'm not supposed to see how wonderful he is and amazing of a leader he is or something like some DU'ers want to shove down my throat with Chavez. Please say it ain't so LOL

21. No one said that
However your initial post was just plain wrong, based upon very faulty logic. If you think somehow you are entitled to use poor logic due to an allegation of theft from your grandparents, well you are wrong about that too.

Very simple. Make a reasoned argument that backs up your claims. Nothing more, nothing less. Requesting that you meet that standard is NOT blanket support for Castro, it is just plain old critical thinking skills.

I hope your head stops spinning. That can hurt.

31. Actually, yeah
You can say a LOT of bad things about Castro that I would not argue with but the Cuban government under him does spend an awful lot of money and resources on its people. They provide the people of Cuba with some things that the United States does not provide for it's own citizens. Of course, it is also true some things are simply not available at all.

Cuba is not a bastion of free speech either, tis true, but it is also not quite Moscow circa 1965 like the US Govt and certain Cuban expatriates would like you to believe. The truth about Cuba, like with most issues, lies somewhere in between the two extremes.

25. I'm with you - it's getting ridiculous.
Some people here are like Republicans with their black and white thinking. All Communists are good, All Capitalists are bad, end of story. Refusal to see shades of gray (or even the truth) occurs at both ends of the spectrum.

A dictator is a dictator, I wouldn't classify any of them as heroes.

Episodic look at the life of Cuban poet and novelist, Reinaldo Arenas (1943-1990), from his childhood in Oriente province to his death in New York City. He joins Castro's rebels. By 1964, he is in Havana. He meets the wealthy Pepe, an early lover; a love-hate relationship lasts for years. Openly gay behavior is a way to spite the government. His writing and homosexuality get him into trouble: he spends two years in prison, writing letters for other inmates and smuggling out a novel. He befriends Lázaro Gomes Garriles, with whom he lives stateless and in poverty in Manhattan after leaving Cuba in the Mariel boat-lift. When asked why he writes, he replies cheerfully, "Revenge."
