Why does Israel insist on destroying herself?
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 07:22 PM by cool user name
Yes, I know it's a loaded question but one not only posed by myself, but posed by many people more intelligent than I.

Question posed by Israeli, Jew, non-Israeli and non-Jew.

Anyone care to discuss?

1. Well, That's Your Theory
my theory is that they are taking it to the bullies rather than waiting for the bullies to fire rockets on them and do nothing

they are off the leash, finally

4. I think the OP's idea is that they should just sit there and take it.
Let the other people destroy them, instead of "destroying themselves."

Bet he or she has never been on the receiving end of a 122mm rocket, or been at the scene of a suicide bombing in a city.

16. Sticks, Stones, And Rockets Fired Into Civilian Areas
with the INTENT of killing as many civilians as they can

just think if they get better weapons, they could kill more Israelis

would that make it okay to fight back?

that's like waiting until the bad guy fires first before you can respond

Ever been on the receiving end of one of those motherfuckers? I have.

26. Some have rockets
The vast majority just have sticks and stones.

And you fail to mention the ethnic cleansing that has been going on in Palestine and has sparked much of the retaliatory violence among the Arabs.

3. are they destroying themselves? so far...
it appears they've gotten away with more than any other country would.

It seems there is no one to hold them accountable.

Unless you consider the hatred they are breeding with their neighbours. But still, they have the US backing them up and no one to reign them in.

13. Ahh, a reasonable post.
First, let me thank you for a reasonable post.

I have read many Israeli authors describe a feeling of moral decline - and with it, a tendency to self-destruct.

I'll see if I can dig up some old stuff. Uri Avnery comes to mind.

20. That hatred already existed. For many years, anti-Semitic propaganda
and incitement have been the rule in neighboring Arab countries. E.g., the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are on sale and widely believed. Several years ago, the Blood Libel made an appearance in a state-sanctioned Saudi newspaper.

More to the point: Hezbollah and other groups in the Middle East have always had the stated goal of destroying Israel. They have long used unlawful acts of war ("terrorism") to further their ends. So I can understand why Israel has declared war on Hezbollah. (Whether it is accomplishing anything, in terms of weakening the threat against them, is another matter.)

30. all I'm saying is, while it appears they've damaged their public
image, at least as the media is reporting it right now... are they really shooting themselves in the foot, so to speak?

It's one thing for public opinion to not go their way. But there needs to be someone to back up that opinion in order to effect real change.

31. Actually, I think you're right. But it seems the Israelis have decided
that the damage to public opinion is less of a problem than Hezbollah itself.

15. It's like a child who has always had an overbearing mother
they never have to take responsiblity or understand the damage they are causing.

Mommy, can I have another 2 billion dollars? Mommy, can I have a few f-16s and a buncha bombs?

Thank you mommy.

Mom, on the other hand, knows perfectly well what havoc she is creating.

because this is Biblical prophesy coming to life.
God has decided this will occur and there is nothing mere mortals can do to alter the will of god.
