Heard some wingnut defending the 80s Iran arms scandal today
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 06:33 PM by BushOut06
On my way home from work, I happened to catch Porky Pig talking to some wingnut. These guys were actually defending Oliver North's role in the Iran Contra fiasco! Something like "we had to give arms to Iran to keep both countries fighting each other" bullshit. Up until this point, I had never actually heard anyone defending sending the arms to Iran - I always heard the other end, defending the flow of $$$ to the Contras. Can you believe this shit? Iraq was supposed to be our "buddies" during the 80s, and here we are deliberatly playing both sides, with the sole intent to have both countries slaughtering each other's civilians for as long as possible.

It does make sense. Hell, knowing what we know about Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc it makes PERFECT sense. I just never thought I'd actually hear any of these RW assholes admit it - let alone be proud of it!

2. Oliver has a nice job with Fox now
because he was such a good soldier back in the day, lying to protect his commander in chief.

i remember my dad, a WWII vet arguing with me with pure rage, spit flying words at me that North was a true patriot.

5. Men like your dad probably remember when Marines were honorable
The idea of a Marine officer lying, scheming, and betraying his own country was probably foreign to your father. Can you imagine a Marine colonel dealing arms to the Chi-coms after WWII?

3. It's Straussian strategy to confuse us. Ignore them. You know the truth!

4. Scary thing is, I think they were actually telling the truth in this case
It makes sense, that the neocons were playing both sides in the Iran-Iraq war. To them, war is just business.

6. Ollie North: traitor.
Treason: providing aid and comfort to the enemy during time of war.

In the 1980's, we were at war with Iran... we exchanged fire with Iranian naval units.

I don't know about you, but selling weapons comes under 'aid and comfort' if you ask me.

7. Oh, most definitely
Couldn't agree with you more. The fact that the Repugs glom all over him like so simply demonstrates their level of moral turpitude.
