Why does this line bother me SO much?
MR. SNOW: The President believes in the forgiveness of sins for all who seek forgiveness.

1. Because it is quite bothersome.
Proselytizing from the oval office strikes me as frightening, at the least.

How much we torture you doesn't matter. What matters is that you make a full confession and ask forgiveness of God, that way your soul will go to Heaven as it rises from the fire that burns your body.

22. No, I was pissed at myself for asking a stupid question..
before reading the link. But it does piss me off that we have an ignorant pea-brained putz with a messiah complex for a President.

Thanks for askin' :hi:

the Sermon on the Mount, which, ultimately, is what's important (if you're Christian).

13. It is obvious that is how Bush thinks he will be forgiven....
for invading a country under false pretenses and all the death and destruction that resulted. What a pompous ass he is. His statement makes my skin crawl.

14. Because it's so conditional
And clearly reflects Bush**'s sentiment that one's guilt or innocence is a matter for him to decide.

15. Bush put himself in the place of god the father
He makes himself the ultimate authority.

He will forgive those who seek forgiveness? Excuse me, but my I tell this asshole to go stick it where the sun don't shine?

17. Because it's blasphemous?
After all, my reading of the Bible says God forgives sins (sin being defined as an offense against God), and it's clearly not up to us mortals to decide the terms of forgiveness, which is what Snow says Bush is arrogating to himself.

Or maybe it's because Snow is seeking to wrap Bush's megalomania in a religious cloak designed to fool the gullible?

There's a lot of levels on which this statement is bothersome. That's probably why it bothers you so much.

31. Because he hasn't sought forgiveness for any of his own
Not to mention evangelizing from the WH press conference. But it's the bitter irony of the statement. How many THOUSANDS killed under his watch, brutally, needlessly. The nation in ruins, the environment shattered, the Constitution lost. I'd like to hear Geroge Bush say "forgive me," just once.
