What I have learned about (some in) the anti-Israel crowd
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 03:59 PM by oberliner
They accuse Israel-supporters of “excusing any crime committed by Israel” simply because they mention that Hezbollah also shares some responsibility for civilian deaths.

They always accept the version of events offered by Counterpunch and other similar web sites, even to the exclusion of contradictory information presented by the UN Secretary General.

They bring any distraction possible, to an argument, from the USS Liberty to the power of the Jewish lobby, in hopes of discussing anything but the actual facts about what Israel is doing.

They have dismissed a myriad of liberal and progressive figures whom they accuse of cozying up to right wing warmongers just because they have a view of the conflict that doesn’t match their own.

They make arguments identical to ones made by fundie anti-semites like Pat Buchanan and David Duke. The same people that believe the holocaust was greatly exaggerated or may never have taken place. Some allies!

They regularly bring up Hitler and/or the Nazis when discussing matters pertaining to Israel.

They accuse supporters of Israel of endorsing continued senseless killing even as those supporters propose solutions and ways for all sides to compromise to achieve peace rather than just blow each other up.

They demonize Israel supporters by calling them “neocons” even though their position is one that is held by almost every leading progressive Democrat in Congress.

Must suck to think Russ Feingold is a neocon.

They think of Israel supporters as “one issue voters” even though both parties express support for Israel so clearly other issues must come into play when deciding whom to vote for.

Oh yeah, some leave angry messages telling us how we do not care about the truth (which I guess they have a monopoly on), that we are terrorist-state supporters, nazi-like, etc. for trying to look at all sides in the conflict. Some logic!

Sadly, they also believe that the Jewish lobby owns all of the politicians in this country, which apparently makes them feel justified and right in claiming that they cannot state their case without being accused of anti-semitism.

5. I think this is a copycat thread
and a good one at that.

Meaning, that it pokes fun at the original thread.

(don't want you to think I agree with either).

You make a good point, though.

Hyperbole is not useful.

I was just trying to be satrical.

2. To be fair, those on here who are pro Israel
Have a made exactly the same kind of knee jerk accusations and attacks.

If there is one thing the Israeli Hezbollah debate confirms its that most people are assholes (including myself).

4. Who Is "They?" ...
It is difficult to address the points mentioned when one does not know who "they" are.

Sorry for being so obtuse, are you talking about 'shrub and Co.', Faux Mews or 'Mel Gibson?'

there guy. Some people in the anti-stuff-that's good crowd have one of your opinions, and I'm going to argue with you about those other opinions.

12. I realize that you're simply
responding to an ugly piece of flamebait, but I'm not sure I see the point. Most sensible- and sensitive people- realize that thread was a nasty piece of work, even if they condemn Israel for its actions. It really doesn't matter a whit if those people are in the majority or not. They know ugly when they see it.

Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 04:07 PM by TAPat
Seems to me that there is a vehement anti-Israeli policy crowd here, but basically no anti-Israel crowd.
Just a difference of perspective I suppose.

on edit: Man, it takes me so long to write that I was not even aware of the "copycat" thing... DOH!

19. I used to be pro-Israel....
until Ariel Sharon set off the latest round of hostilities by provoking Palestine in his visit to the Temple Mount in 2000. And the last 5 years I've watched Israel systematically abuse, destroy, kill any and all hope Palestinians had for a real life.

If anyone turned me against Israel, it was Israel.
