The Final Judgement
I have noticed that people will criticize certain hardline sects of Christianity for beliefs involving the end of the age. In many ways it is rightfully so, but it is pretty obvious to see why people feel this way. Global warming is now something tangible. We can see solid evidence for it, and the discussion of global warming is now a major subject discussed among Americans. The middle east is growing in instability, and slowly the nations of the west are consolidating economically and politically. Out of all periods in human history, things look (from a certain angle) more dire than ever before.

Many sects of Islam also believe the end is coming soon! In fact some muslims believe that this is one of the last jihads in human history. Those sects that are fighting for unification and solidification of their promised land, and when this happens Christ comes back to defeat the pretender, the "anti-christ".

I dont hear a lot concerning the motives of the various fundimentalist Islamic groups. I also dont hear a lot at all about their ominous views on the end times. I guess it is because Christianity is so close to home, and most who post here have issues concerning literal interpritations of any holy scripture.

the lack of attention toward good and evil in all this hysteria. the common thread of all religion is "be nice" nobody is behaving well.

2. I Thought It Was "Be Good"... But then I Left The Catholic Church
a long time ago. I'm more into spirituality, love, caring and giving to our fellow human beings.

3. People have thought the end of the world
was coming for thousands of years, down through the line. That's not to say that the world WON'T end in some form or fashion (for example, war), but people have always thought it would happen in their lifetime. You are right when you say some christians get criticized about the end of the age. I can't speak for others, but for me personally, nothing pisses me off more than so called christians who claim to be so holy, who actually promote the crap going on in the middle east. People are dying and all they can think about is being raptured and armageddon and the suffering in hell of the "heathens". Christ would be so proud (sarcasm).

Yes, some people here have a problem with literal interpretations of scripture, including myself, though I do believe in God. What one person considers literal may not be to someone else. It's subjective. Hence the many denominations around. If you want to know about Islam's end time beliefs, I'm sure you'll find it online.

As to end of the world, whether God does it, the anti-christ, nukes, global warming, or asteroids, yeah, I think one way or another it will end. Nobody can say when. Could be tomorrow or 500 years from now. People are always going to look for the signs in their age as they always have.
