Are Mel's Prejudices Worse Than Others?
If you turn on Faux News you will find rants about Mexicans, gays, lib-ruls and how they are "taking over" "ruining the country" or marriage or putting us in danger or whatever. Haven't all of us here been ranted against by the Coulters -- to the point of being called traitors and terrorists just for not supporting Bush?

It is just odd to me that Mel Gibson's rant inspires such such freaking out when our society has become so tone-deaf to the constant buzz of slander about so many categories of people (gays, single mothers, immigrants, feminists, liberals, artists, ETC ETC ETC)

Just don't say anything about Jews or all hell will break loose, it's just very curious to me, the double standards!

1. Mel Gibson tried to hide it
We heard rumors during the Passion Of The Christ push but now we all know. His millions can't protect him. This doesn't happen in America every day and I like it that he got busted this way. I think justice has been served.

11. I Hated The Passion --
Didn't get through the DVD version BORRRRING...

However what about it was anti-Jewish? The fact that he got crucified? Well so the story goes! Was it considered anti-Roman as well?

2. Apples and oranges. You're trying to equate rants against liberals with
racism?

And most thinking individuals don't think Fox News is alright.

I'm guessing you're not Jewish.

7. You Can Be Jewish And Be An Israel Basher!
I'm not Jewish but I don't think what they are doing has anything to do with being Jewish, their country has been taken over by RW warmongering maniacs, same as the US has. Just like I can say our government is batshit nuts without being anti-American, same thing. In fact Israel's government is just like BushCo, IMO, I can't stand either one.

12. My comment was in reference to your not understanding the defensiveness.
If you were Jewish, you would, whether or not you agreed with it. It's similar to how Blacks may not agree with all of the things Farrakhan has to say, but they understand why he says them. This is a complicated issue, and it can't be realistically simplified to "Israel-bashing" without implicit anti-Jewish sentiment.

4. He's a big name from hollywood
The bigger the name the bigger the news coverage. I think the coverage would have been the same regardless of which group he disparaged.

5. true that...

every group gets crap from some other group. it's not right, but shit happens.

yea, mel gibson is officially a drunken asshole and yea he said something about jews during the arrest.

jewish people- the guy is making himself look enough like an ass, what's the point in beating a dead horse? his movie career is probably dead and now he is Top 10 for Douchebag of the week. if you keep the bitching goin' on and on people are going to start thinking your whining. there are more important things to worry about besides gibsons drunken rant.

6. Double standards.
If he had something about Blacks, or possibly even gays, then I doubt we would see the threads "defending/rationalizing his behavior," bitching about this being a "distraction," or the ones indicating it is Jewish posters making a big deal out of this!

Plain and simple: anti-Semitism is a real problem and SOME DU'ers don't want to admit to that!

9. I'm Not Defending Him
But he has said things about gays and feminists and others and it hardly registered. He said that thing about they take it up the ass or whatever, not even a blip.

What is this BS about there being other things to worry about, of course there are, I'm just sayin'. Did I post it in The Most Important Thing forum or something?

8. the rest of us don't have his power, money, influence,
and celebrity.

Mel has more responsibility because he can have a wider impact

he's so brilliant in many ways, and completely bonkers in others
