Marine recruiter just came to my door

...asking for my 17 year old. I can't fucking believe it...didn't get past me. I was polite but firm, not a chance in hell.

This kid told me we had the right idea about Iraq, in other words..we should be there. Also told me we really weren't killing very many Iraqis. I asked him how long he spent in Iraq...no time there at all.

I just can't believe they came here, I'm not sure why I'm shocked, but I am.

Cheers

1. Talk to your son. You know they'll keep tracking him down.
Please make sure he's prepared to fend them off.

8. That's the strange part

When I opened the door I thought he was here because of my 18 year old son; he was here for my daughter!

I think that's what froze my brain for a moment.

Cheers

10. Wow. Be doubly careful.
I can't imagine why anyone would join the military right now, but kids must be doing it for some reason.

I told him that we were a "diplomacy first' household and that the current administration's foreign policy is against everything we stand for.

Good luck with yours and cheers

Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 01:09 PM by AngryOldDem
I've never heard of them doing that before.

I'd call the local recruiting office and raise hell, not that it would do any good.

I'm also extremely offended by his "sales pitch." If things are so damned good over there, then the recruiter should go.

..actually rolled his eyes at me, when we were dicussing Iraq. Actually told me that Iraq was a threat to the US.

He kept asking to speak to my daughter, I told him she was a minor and I forbid it.

5. He'll be back.
Recruiters are often like the Terminator. They can't be reasoned with and they will not stop until they get their quota.

Next time send your son to the door in drag and holding a bong. That should quell any further recruitment attempts.

7. They'b bust down the door and take them if they could get away with it.
The wolves are hungry, very hungry. It's worth telling your children about the dangers of drugs- and it's worth it to spend time talking to them about watching out for these recruiters.

They will put more pressure on your child than any drug dealer will and they will lie, threaten, cajole, whatever it takes to get them signed up.

Tell your child NOT TO EVEN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT with them- I've heard audio of a recruiter threatening a kid with going to jail if they didn't keep the appointment. Total lie, but that doesn't stop them...

15. Thanks!

When he came to the door and asked for my daughter, I thought it was someone she went to school with...boy was I wrong.

Thankfully my daughter is pretty savvy and has a strong bullshit meter, they'll have a real hard time trying to convince her...that is if they ever get to talk to her face to face.

Cheers

12. A recruiter called about my daughter a while back.
I told him she wasn't interested and had just started college. He said, "Oh, so she's going to college?" I said, yes. He hasn't called back. Solution - the recruiters are only looking for kids whom they perceive as having no future. If they can get to a kid with no money or no support, they circle like vultures, but give them a kid with options and they fade fast...

30. I can attest to that. Every "Job" fair they have at my school, the
recruiters are there. I normally chat with them since I'm prior service and ask how things are going etc. Last time around I got pressed to join up again because I'd of course only have to work as an instructor at the base nearby, blah blah blah. I just kinda laughed and said, no thanks.

38. An Army recruiter (among others) told me one day that they had money
for college. Told him we didn't need it. Asked how we were going to pay for college. Told him it was none of his damn business. I said that if my son decided on a military career AFTER college, that's just fine with me, but he's going to college first. This guy gave up. I wish he'd given the message to the Navy guy who continued to call for about 8 months after that.

marine recruiters stalking young people at malls. At least your children have you to block the soul snatchers. They know a draft will only turn more Americans against the war, so they are trolling for recruits.

24. I can see how that happens

I listened to this kid (young man) twist the truth. If someone doesn't really follow what's going on a teen could easily believe the recruiter.

What I still don't know...How did they get my daughter's info? She attends a private school and I have informed the school that no information regarding my children is to be released without my permission.

Strange that it was my daughter and not my son.

Cheers

19. I live in a "conservative" high income suburb
Our kids never, ever get stalked by recruiters. They have recruiters at the high school, and occasionally there are mailings, etc. but that's it.

I have a feeling the military is being told to stay away from GOP dominated communities.

22. They're going door to door now?!
During my senior year of high school, I had military recruiters constantly phone me at home, but they never came to my door. The military must really be desperate for recruits!

Funny how the Bush-lovers haven't all rushed down to their local recruitment office to help their beloved president in his time of need. Yeah, war is great as long as someone else is fighting it. Right, chickenhawks? :hide:

with all the negativity about Mexican illegals in the U.S., they were so thrilled to find them fighting in Iraq, and made them citizens with GW there making a speech. What hypocrites. I wonder how many illegals even voted for Bush? Hum, you just might be surprised.

Agreed...my daughter wouldn't have been half as nice as I was, good thing she was still sleeping.

However, I made it very clear that my daughter is still a minor, therefore under my care and I would not allow any form of the military to speak with her.

Good luck to yours and cheers

33. Don't even try to reason
with these twits. Just tell them that they are trespassing on private property and unless they leave immediately, you will call the police. The cops may not sympathize, but they will have to ask the recruiter to leave. Enough cop calls and the recruiters will stop going door to door. The cops will get sick of the calls and complain to the recruiting office.

Which is what we inmates called it when I was in back in the early '60s. I shared my thoughts and experiences with him.
He's dumb enough that he may still join the military, but he's discarded the glorious Marine Crotch idea.

if he agreed to go to Iraq. It was BS of course, but at the time he couldn't find a job, and had been searching for several months. It was a scary moment.

Then I made him watch "Fallujah: The Hidden Massacre" No more questions were asked - no war no way.

If they have questions, make your kids watch this video - it's halfway down the page.
