US eyes the end of the Castro regime
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration said Tuesday it is monitoring the health crisis of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, as officials restated their goal of helping to ensure a democratic transition on the island.

Three weeks before the official announcement in Havana of Castro’s deteriorating health, a U.S. presidential commission called for an $80 million program to bolster non-governmental groups in Cuba for the purpose of hastening an end to the country’s communist system.

The report also proposed “assistance in preparing the Cuban military forces to adjust to an appropriate role in a democracy.” It provided no details on this point.

6. They will...
It will be more than a hospital -- there will be an incident...and the US will flatten Cuba because the 'new leaders' will not want any reminder of the old regime that might prove to be symbols for the opposition. Once the country's infrastructure is destroyed, it will create it's own urgency to accept US terms and simply 'surrender' utterly. The US hatred of Castro is so great that everything in the country will be destroyed, so it can be rebuilt to maximize US-Cuban exile control of the citizens.

Any Cuban that opposes will be branded a terrorist and whisked out of the Cuban judicial system either to Gitmo or elsewhere. Venezuela will become the new 'spending' demon for the war machine and the GOP will take credit for finally solving the Cuban problem, which will be an irresistible plank in their re-election strategy.

or wishes to Castro, hoping he will outlive this dreadful American regime just to piss GW off, and to kept GW's buddies from taking over and exploiting Cuba. They will try to bleed it dry while they can.   Democracy!

Well, isn't that just the best little bit of Orwellian newspeak I've heard today.
