Force vs diplomacy

I do not see that threats of harm, or harm, stop individuals or groups or countries from hurting each other. I mean the whole range from pedophiles, to murderers, to "terrorist groups" (in quotes because while it is used properly sometimes, is also overused) to countrys.

People who do not murder each other because, if they get caught, they will go to jail/be killed are most likely the people who would not murder each other anyway. Using force against a group/country to try and stop them from harming you does not seem to work either since it (seems like always) deteriorates into guerilla war.

Talk and working together is needed. Diplomacy, ability to compromise. Yes, there will always be nuts, be fringe elements that this does not work with, but it seems most people all over the world want the same thing. Figure out what people need, what they want, how to compromise about it.

Maybe we could round up those fringe elements and put them someplace together? (Though that probably won't work, we'd get a guerilla war with the Fringe.) How to keep the damage that occurs during rounding up and controlling that fringe from harming those that are not involved, those that want a place to live, food, water, etc?

I really don't get the power grab, need to control others, and don't understand how using force like this works since it doesn't seem to have in the past.
