Mad Mel asking for help from Jewish Comm. with his drinking problem
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 10:35 AM by Philosoraptor
I swear, I just heard it on the news, it must be true. He officially apologized to the Jews, finally, and has asked them for their help in his terrible battle with booze.

This guy really cracks me up.

16. He also asked if anybody knew of a real good Jewish lawyer....
Just kidding but..... Anyone remember the "All in The Familiy" episode in which Archie bunker needed a lawyer?

And how long until we hear the wing-nuttery use the term.... "politically correct" with regard to Mel's comments. I'm guessing that's by today, if it hasn't been used already.

4. Probably both. He has apologized for his words and actions...
so what more can he do. Will 'some' not be satisfied until they have crushed and destroyed him completely? His real crime was DUI. Hopefully, he will not do it in the future.

15. His real crime was lying to the public...
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 10:43 AM by TwoSparkles
I agree that it's distasteful that there is such a witch-hunt mentality--when something like this happens.

However, you said his "real crime" was DUI.

I respectfully disagree.

Gibson has repeatedly insisted that he is not an anti-Semite. Despite being raised by a man who called the Jews "inferior" and who also claims that the Holocaust did not happen--Gibson continually said that he harbored no bigoted feelings toward the Jewish people.

"Passion of the Christ" absolutely depicted the Jewish people in a negative light. Every time the camera cut to a Jewish person, in the crowd scene--they looked like monsters. I walked away from the movie feeling as if the Jews were largely responsible for what happened to Jesus and that they led the cheers to his Crucifixion. Again, Gibson continued to insist that his movie was not biased against the Jews. He waived off criticism of his father's radical views and said he did not share his father's opinions.

Then Gibson gets drunk. Out comes the angry, anti-Semitic rantings. All along, this guy hated Jewish people--and based on his own words, he believes they are "responsible for all of the wars."

He lied to all of us. He lied to make money off of the movie. What's worse--his movie is filled with biases against the Jewish people---that he wanted to spread around the world--while insisting that no biases were there. In effect, he spread propaganda against the Jewish people--while positioning his movie as an "accurate account of history."

I could care less about the DUI. People make mistakes. Alcoholics are just good people trying to numb out personal pain--and anyone who tackles rehab is a hero. However, this entire thing is not about a DUI or alcoholism. Those are the secondary crimes that pushed the truth to the surface.

The truth is--Gibson is a hateful anti-semite, he lied about it many times and he attempted to pass off his "Passion" movie as a neutral account of history--when it was really an attempt to further hatred toward Jews. Those are the "real crimes".

Again, I don't agree with the media getting giddy over Gibson's demise. Gibson revealed the truth--and it's time to move on.

19. Well, I respectfully disagree with you......
because his real crime was DUI. He could have killed someone and it is against the law to drink and drive. I guess what you are saying is the "real crime" is being a bigot. If that is the case there are many criminals running around this country right now committing that "real crime" and not just against the Jews. You name it, there will be a bigot nearby.

27. This subject isn't about 'many people' who are anti-semites. It's about
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 12:00 PM by Kahuna
Mel Gibson being anti-semetic. And for the record, 'many people' are gazillionaire thanks to an industry where many of the power players and pioneers, I might add, are Jewish.

You are just trying to make excuses and conflate the two so as to deflect from Mel's anti-semetic sentiments which he made perfectly clear. So let's just stick with one topic at a time. Topic 1 = illegally driving under the influence. Topic 2 = his apparently hostility towards Jews.

28. I am not trying to deflect from his statements or his.....
apparent hostility toward Jews. I already stated that he is an asshole. I asked a question no one, including you, bothered to answer. Mel Gibson made anti-semitic statements and that is wrong, he apologized and the matter should be dropped. All of this hand wringing isn't going to change Mel Gibson and his bigotry, he is the only one who can do that. Many of his views reveal he is a nutcase so just stop seeing his movies, it is the reason I refused to see "The Passion of the Christ". I will stick with whatever topic I please, thank you very much, because that is what DU is all about.

25. Oh brother. Easy for you to say. Wonder what you would be saying
if the arresting officer was black and he called the officer a nigger, and went on a racial rant. Would that be okay too? The point is, Mel is a bigot who has benefited greatly from his association with Jews in Hollywood. I have no pity for him if they now decide to turn their backs on him.

29. This is not worth arguing about anymore. As far as anyone...
benefiting in Hollywood, it works both ways. Mel Gibson was a super star and his movies brought in much money. I hate bigotry against ANYONE and refuse to have someone accuse me of being one. I have no pity for him either because he is a fool. As for seeing his movies, everyone has a choice to see them or not.

5. He's saying the right things then.
I can accept that. I can also give him the benefit of the doubt, though he does have to bear the consequences of getting behind the wheel.

Now if only the "Palestinians" and Hezbollah could take his example start saying some of the right things, too.

6. PR Overdrive
He apologised to the Jewish community, and rightly so. His comments were disgraceful. But, then he asked them to help him with his drinking??? I mean is there some kind of magical kosher cure for alcoholism? My God, this guy is in a bad state.

9. magical kosher cure for alcoholism:
It's called Manischewitz. You'll go into a sugar coma before you can consume enough of it to get properly drunk.

18. no, it's not *literally* true
but the stuff is incredibly sweet, like a dessert wine with a few packets of sugar stirred in. I always enjoyed it with pomegranate seeds, to tart it up a bit.

7. I wonder if there would have been such an uproar...
if Gibson had said he "hates the f#$&ing Arabs" (something I hear people say all the time) and lets NUKE them all. Better yet, if he had said he "hates the f***ing cops" many, many would have been cheering him on. Put it all into perspective that he was drunk and an asshole and leave it at that.

Actor Mel Gibson apologizes for his comments about Jews, saying there's "no excuse" and there should be "no tolerance" for "anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark."

I'm all for someone that has an addiction seeking help and I would help him if he asked me.

There should be consequences to his actions, but I'm glad he is seeking help.

17. Why should Jews help that asshole?
Now he puts an onus on the people he hates? Or is he just rubbing it in?

Maybe he should ask Ofus Dei, or Scientology, or pay Betty Ford a HUGH1! fee to help him.

Whether Mel's drunk or sober, he is still an asshole.

21. Truthfully I cannot understand
all this attention to Mel Gibson while Israel continues to slaughter the Lebanese people with virtual impunity from MSMachine and the Republican and Democratic parties. So Mel Gibson said something offensive - is anyone dead as a result of his comments? Meanwhile over 600 Lebanese civilians are dead thanks to said Israel and US weapons. There's something really fugged up abuot this.

Nothing bad will come for Gibson. Let's get real. Fascism is the new fad in America. It's ok to be a racist these days. This same thing happened even 10 years ago it would be a ruin for his career.
