Senate DELAYS Bolton Vote
Senate panel puts off Bolton vote to September Mon Jul 31, 2:56 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At the urging of Democrats, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has put off a vote until September on whether to keep John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, committee aides said on Monday.

Democrats want to use that time to press the White House for documents they had sought last year during the dispute over Bolton's nomination to be U.N. envoy. They contend he bullied intelligence analysts to conform to his hawkish views in his last job as top U.S. arms control negotiator.

Republicans, citing the need for a strong hand at the United Nations during the Middle East crisis, had pushed for quick confirmation.

Bolton, a favorite of conservatives and a harsh U.N. critic, has served in the post for a year after President George W. Bush bypassed the Senate and appointed him during a congressional recess.

3. That could work out rather nicely...

...seriously. From the article:
The appointment expires in January, and the White House wants him confirmed by the Senate to keep him for the rest of Bush's term, which ends in January 2009.

Bush could reappoint him, but Bolton could not receive a salary and he would be viewed as being in a weakened position.

Better and better -- keep this moronic millstone around Bush's neck through the 2006 elections, yet as an unpaid ambassador (*I like that part -- why should this fool profit at the world's expense?*) increasingly viewed by the diplomatic community as lacking true support (aside from that of Bush).

2. How we can allow this THUG to represent us to the world...
Just eludes me. Oh, wait, I forgot, we're still living under the Bush Fascist State.

Well, we're now reaping what we sowed, and I hope the U.N. sticks the Middle East crisis right down our throats. We're begging them to take us and Israel off the hook by sending in THEIR troops, the ones Bolton spits on as useless, so we won't get caught in the middle of another bloody, pointless war. I hope the U.N. leaves Bush holding the bag for encouraging this slaughter.

4. What? Democrats insisting on the documents?
What are they trying to do -- act like an opposition party? Don't the Democrats know there's a crisis? A crisis! Booo! Get scared, dammit.

On a slightly more serious note, delay is a very good thing; because Bolton, unlike the Breck girls, the closer you get, the better he doesn't look. An additional month to scrutinize his record and let public opinion be a little less stampeded by the ongoing atrocities being committed in the Middle East, and Bolton will look like the out-of-control lunatic that he is.
