"The Democrats hate Bush and the Repubs more than our enemies..."
Paraphrasing, how many times have you heard that said or insinuated? Is there any truth to it? I do believe Bush and the Repubs are more of a threat to our nation than al Qaeda. Is that naive? I do not trust Bush and Cheney. They have shown their intent to ignore the laws and the Constitution. They have done great damage to our country and our institutions. If you do not "hate" what they are doing, then something is wrong. But it is not with those Democrats that are vilified so by the Republican sympathizers.

1. "When did you stop beating your wife?"
Classic two-pronged attack, where one proposition is assumed true as the other is challenged.

10. Exactly, we know the enemy.
Threat prioritization is a requirement in the modern world.

4. Republican administrations have supported
and built up America's so-called enemies, from selling arms to Iran in Iran-Contra and funding the Mujahideen (which evolved into the Taliban and al-Qaeda). There are plenty more mainstream examples (plus who knows what else they've done that hasn't come out yet).

TRAITORS? They are the ones that hate and refer to Liberals and Democrats as the enemy not us...

13. Not nearly enough.
They ARE traitors--fascist scumbags of the first order. They hate the Constitution, they hate free and fair elections, they hate democracy and the rule of law--they hate everything the United States stands for. There's no difference between conservatives and Timothy McVeigh--they would both destroy the institutions of free and democratic America and replace them with fascist militarism.

6. Well, yes.
I do hate them more than I hate our "enemies" (assuming by "enemies" they mean Islamic terrorists). They're closer to me, they have more ability to cause me problems, and they represent me and my country to the rest of the world, causing me personal humilation every time one of them acts like an asshat. Also, they've ruined more of the America I love in the past 6 years than any of the terrorists have, by a fair margin.

This doesn't mean that I have any sympathy for Islamic terrorists either. Something that 90% of humanity seems to forget on a regular basis (including most of the posters here at DU) is that old adage, "The enemy of my enemy is not my friend"

7. I've only heard it said by propagandists and wingnut morons.
In fact, it was the conservatives who ignored or derided the threat of Islamist terrorism prior to 9/11, and it's conservatives who politicized and exploited the 9/11 attacks for their own purposes, and it's conservatives who launched an endless war against "terror" and attacked the wrong country, and it's conservatives who believe that turning the entire middle east into a sea of blood will somehow usher in a golden age of peace and freedom and cheap oil forever. I fear that Islamist terrorists are, indeed, plotting more and bigger attacks on U.S. soil, and I believe they must be hunted down and killed or captured before they can carry out those attacks. I know for a fact that conservatives and the Republican party are intentionally bankrupting the nation, degrading the military to the point of near-universal unreadiness, undermining our most basic constitutional protections, corrupting our electoral process, selling out the interests of the citizenry in favor of profits for corporations, and dragging us down the chute into fascism. Long/short, I've got plenty of hate to go around.

9. I hope Democrats don't react to media hype.
But, the reason Repugs react so to our international enemies is they have No sense of history. Democrats are usually far better informed. We know Jimmy Carter/Ronald Reagan charged Islamic nationalist in order to engage them in Afghanistan against Russia. Then, when Bush I invaded Iraq, using Saudi bases, those same fanatics energerized by Reagan turned on the US.
Most of the time we create our own enemies. The CIA call it 'blowback.'
History does not make for cliches, but it's effects create international forces that can bite us on the arse. War mania is not rational as Bush uses it for ulterior motives.
So, do we hate Repugs more than our international enemies. Well, when they were the ones who caused this "blowback;' yes, I guess I do.

11. "And You Don't?"
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 10:54 AM by ProfessorGAC
That's my reply. "And you don't? Then you obviously aren't paying enough attention. I don't fear our 'enemies'. They are powerless, in the long run, against this country. The danger is having thoughtless, 'know-it-alls' running this country."

19. When you turn to independent news sources
Such as RObert Fiske, Gregg Palast, The UK's "Independent" and seek out long term trends. No, I don't think I respond to media hype. Pretty sure of that. Realize the media, like Dan K Rather, looking down of protesters before Bush's war in 2003, now that is towing the company line.

14. Just reply that we recognize that at this moment in time
they are a greater threat to America and what she stands for than any terrorist that would do her physical harm. They are doing harm to the core concepts of this nation, to the constitution itself and they must be stopped.

20. Bush and the Republican's are everybody's enemies.
Take a good look around the world. Bush and his party are universally reviled. It isn't just Democrats here at home. It's the whole damn world!
Republican's, please tell me one thing your president and party have done in the last 5 1/2 years that would endear you to anyone anywhere.
